4. Chapter 4~ Coffee

Hey y'all! Lilly here (frantic-fangirl823) I hope you're enjoying this so far! Randy and I have really enjoyed writing this together! Thank you so much for 200 views so quickly! Also! Be prepared to see a crossover with @love_fangirling with her story "Mission: Kill" (should be VERY soon, if not in this chapter *wink*)

Nathaniel's (P.O.V.)

I managed to slip out of the building unnoticed and head to my car in the parking lot. Sitting down, I pull my phone out and call my boss. Who just so happens to be my dad. I quickly dial his number using a closed line and wait for him to pick up.

"Nathaniel.", I hear his gruff voice.

"Yeah. Hey, I wanted to ask you something.", I say as I start the car. The engine rumbles and I pull out, heading down the street.

"Is it about your mission?", he asks.

"Yeah."

"Alright. What do you want?", he sighs.

Rolling my eyes and shaking my head I say, "I was thinking of asking the kid to coffee. He seems like he likes me or whatever and I thought it would be a good opportunity."

I avoid using people's names on my missions. Most assassins do. It helps to not get attached to them.

"Hm? Oh. Yeah sure. Do what you have to, son.", he says. I doubt he was even listening.

"Alright, I'll ask him later. Bye.", I say and hang up. I put my phone down and just keep driving.

I pull back into the school before lunch is over. Heading to my next class I think of how I'll ask him out to the coffee place. I guess I could just pull him aside and ask....

Wishing I never had the idea to do this, I tail him in the hall, until I get close enough.

"Hey,", I say, grabbing his arm, "Can I talk to you?"

"U-uh...uh, yeah, sure.", he stuttered.

I smiled to myself. Never knew I could have this kind of effect on people. Pulling him into an empty classroom, I leaned against a desk and watched him come in. He was avoiding eye contact.

After a moment I say "I've noticed you watching me.", just for fun. To see how he'd react.

He looked shocked as he blushed and looked down. He starts to stutter, but I cut him off.

"No, it's ok, I even think it's cute. I was just going to see if you were interested in going out sometime.", I say, cutting to the chase. I wanted to be done with this already. I couldn't wait until I could drop the accent once he was recruited.

He looked up at me, shocked. I started laughing, to hopefully snap out of his daze. It seemed to work as he blinked and said,

"Sorry. Of course, I would like to go out with you. But why are you laughing?"

"Oh sorry about that. It was the face you made after I asked you out, it's just kind of funny. Sorry if I'm being mean.", I lied.

We ended up talking the rest of the period and agreed to meet on Friday. I was dreading it already. But maybe I could have some fun with it....

(Friday)

I'm leaning against my car when I see him come up.

I smile. "You got everything?", I ask.

"Yeah."

People are staring as he gets in but I ignore it and just drive to the shop, forcing a smile.

Once we get there he says he's never really liked coffee and "was more of a tea person". We didn't order anything.

The whole time he's talking and I kind of zone out, until he says,

"I've never really done this before."

"Me either. I've only dated girls in the past.", I say, which was true I guess. I did have a "girlfriend" in the past. But we were best friends and it didn't work out. We still are best friends. She's an assassin, like me.

He seemed to get really sad all of a sudden, so I grabbed his hand.

"Hey, you ok?", I ask.

"Yeah, um... I was just thinking, sorry if I made you worry or something.", he says.

"No, it's fine. You just spaced out a bit.", Truthfully, I didn't really care.

"Oh no, I was just wondering when the government will recruit me.", he was lying.

I faked like I didn't know what he meant.

"You have powers?", I ask.

"Well, yeah. I do."

"Well, that's cool."

I end up ordering a cup of coffee and just talk for an hour. Well, he talks. I just listen, trying to get any important information that I might need. He must've realized this when he asked if I was ok.

"Yeah. I just got lost in your voice.", I smirk as he blushes and looks down. So the fun begins....

His phone went off and he answered. It was his mother, and he said he had to leave. He gets up to leave when I stop him, grabbing his arm and pulling him close. He has his eyes closed and it takes everything of me to not burst out laughing. He opens his eyes.

"What?", he asks.

"Well I was going to kiss you, but then I remembered that I never kiss on the first date. I just couldn't resist trying", I smirk.

He blushes and says goodbye and walks out.

I wait, smirking.

Soon, he came back, realizing he didn't have a ride without me.

When we arrive at his house, I stopped, about to say goodbye, when he leaned in and kissed me. I was shocked, but I had to hide it. He pulls away and I plaster on a smile. He runs inside and I practically speed to my apartment.

Unlocking the door, I push it open, throw my stuff down and run to the bedroom. I call Jax.

This is where the collab comes in! Hope you like it!

She answers. "What?", she asks.

"I need to get away. Anywhere. I just need to get a mission. You got an open one?", I ask.

"What's with the accent?", she laughs.

I forgot I was still using it.

"Sorry, I need to use it for this Eli kid thing.", I say, dropping it.

"Oh. Yeah uhh..., hold on I'll see what I got.", she says.

It's silent for a few minutes and I pace the room, over and over.

"Ok, I got something. You can take it 'cause I'm busy.", she says.

"Awesome. What is it?", I answer immediately.

"Umm...", I can hear her flipping through the info on the mission. I waited anxiously for an answer.

Why the hell was I acting so weirdly...?

"Okay. Here it is.", she says, "This guy named...Karson wants his boss dead. It'll be a little tricky, considering he always has bodyguards on him."

"Please. That's easy!", I laugh and walk out of the room to the kitchen.

"No, Nathaniel. These guys are serious. Sure, it could be easy, but you can get seriously hurt.", she says, worried.

"Jax. When was the last time I got hurt on a mission?", I ask, smiling.

"Nathanial....", she says.

"I'll be fine.", I say, hanging up.

I put my phone on the counter and make myself a sandwich. I look around the apartment that the "company" pays for. We call the bureau the company to try and avoid suspicion. This one wasn't bad. It had two bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms and a small living room in it.

I'd go on the mission tomorrow. I couldn't tell my dad (the head of the company) about it or he'd kill me himself. I smile to myself and think of how much fun it'd be. I hadn't had a real mission in what felt like ages.

I could hardley wait for tomorrow.
