Younger and Way Less Lucky: If You Can't See Where it Keeps It's Brain

Book One in the Younger and Way Less Lucky series
Let's say, just for a minute, that Lily had given birth to a second child just before she was murdered. Let's say, just for a minute, that Harry had a younger sister, Rose.
Rose Lily Potter is the younger sister of Harry Potter. Born on June 30, 1981, she is almost exactly a year younger than Harry, and in the same year as Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood, and has Severus Snape as a godfather. The two children live with Sirius Black, with both Severus and Remus as frequent visitors. Rose's first year is much more traumatic than Harry's was, but, as the leader of the Silver Trio, she and her friends will make it work.

2. Chapter Two

"HARRY, COME ON, YOU'RE GOING TO MISS THE TRAIN!" Sirius bellowed up the stairs, tripping over Harry's trunk.

Somehow, this morning was even more chaotic than September First at the Weasley's, and it was only Sirius, Harry, and Rose.

"Paddy, please, why can't I go?" Rose begged.

"Rose, you're not old enough." Sirius said. "You'll be going next year, with Ginny."

"But Paddy, I want to go now!" Rose began to cry.

"Rose, please, we need to get in the car!" Sirius looked extremely frazzled. "HARRY!" he shouted again.

"I'M COMING, I'M COMING!" Harry shouted back, emerging at the top of the stairs.

"Rose, please take Hedwig's cage, so I can help your brother with his trunk." Sirius said.

Still crying, Rose took the strap on Harry's owl's cage, and carried it across the square into the car.

Sirius and Harry emerged, trying to get Harry's trunk into the car without killing someone. Finally, the car was packed, Harry and Rose were settled in the front seat, and Sirius was behind the wheel.

"Okay, let's go." Sirius steered the car out of Grimmauld Place, and finally, they reached King's Cross.

"Go, Harry, Rose and I will be there in a second." Sirius said. Rose was still sobbing.

Harry ran through the barrier, and disappeared. Rose grabbed Sirius's hand, and they sprinted towards the barrier together, coming out on the other side.

"Rose!" Ginny called, racing towards her.

"Ginny!" Rose smiled through her tears. "We're dropping off Harry."

"We're dropping off Percy, Fred, George, and Ron." Ginny agreed. "Ron's been gloating all morning that he's finally going, and that I'm not!"

"Ron's a butt." Rose decided, wiping her face. The tears had finally stopped falling, but not for very long. A whistle sounded.

Harry was about to board the train, but-

"HARRY!" Rose shrieked. "Harry, you're coming home for Christmas, right?"

"I don't think so, not this year." Harry said, hugging her. "I want to spend the first one at Hogwarts, well, at Hogwarts."

Sirius pushed Harry towards the train, and he boarded. Another whistle sounded, and Rose and Ginny both began to cry.

"Don't, Ginny, Rose." George said, waving at them.

"Don't worry, we'll send you tons of letters." Fred agreed.

"We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat!" George said, grinning.

"George!" Molly sounded reproachful.

"Only joking, Mum..."

Rose and Ginny began laugh. As the train started moving, they ran alongside it, until it gathered too much speed and they fell back, waving. Sirius and Molly moved towards them both.

"Don't worry, girls, you'll be going next year." Sirius said. "And until then, you get to spend all year having fun together, without any boys!"

As both girls came from an all-boy household, Rose and Ginny brightened slightly at this prospect, and left the station without shedding any more tears.
