The Red Scarf : Poetry Novella

“But . . . but Mummy would never leave”
“If she could have stopped it, I know she would have Hannah”
“No . . . NO! I refuse to believe Mummy did that”
“Hannah, please, you need to understand, she couldn’t have stopped it”
I wanted her to come back
I wanted it all to be one bad dream
I just wanted to wake up from it and run back into her arms

But all I could do was keep sleeping

7. bad dream

“But . . . but Mummy would never leave”

“If she could have stopped it, I know she would have, Hannah”

“No . . . NO! I refuse to believe Mummy did that”

“Hannah, please, you need to understand, she couldn’t have stopped it.”

Even then, through all the barriers I put up, I knew inside

I knew inside

that she couldn’t come back

Not even if she wanted to

But I still refused to believe it

I wanted her to come back

I wanted it all to be one bad dream

I just wanted to wake up, running back into her arms

But all I could do was keep on sleeping

Keep sleeping and

living through this ten year long nightmare

Feeling all the pain of every day without her

But I never woke up from it

I could never wake up from it
