The Red Scarf : Poetry Novella

“But . . . but Mummy would never leave”
“If she could have stopped it, I know she would have Hannah”
“No . . . NO! I refuse to believe Mummy did that”
“Hannah, please, you need to understand, she couldn’t have stopped it”
I wanted her to come back
I wanted it all to be one bad dream
I just wanted to wake up from it and run back into her arms

But all I could do was keep sleeping

1. rain

Pit, pat, pit, pat

Those are the only sounds resounding through my ears

The sound of the rain,

The sound of the water slowly falling to the ground

Splashing over the dirt and stone

Only to remind me,

Remind me of the day that the lights finally went out

The day that my happiness finally disappeared

The day that I wish to forget most

When I lost the one thing most precious to me . . .

Remembering it like an ever repeating movie in my mind

Always playing just because of one thread incomplete

Never letting me forget it

Never letting me move on

Always reminding me of the day that mother moved on
