4. Classes, Schmasses!

Chapter Three

Classes, Schmasses!

The train arrived a little more than an hour later, an hour I enjoyed talking with James, Sev, and Fen. I had become friends with all three by he time it had stopped.

When it did (inevitably) stop, Fen told me to "Stay by us, we know where to go-" and led me to a man with brown hair and a round face. "Hello, Professor Longbottom," Sev said as he got in one of the carriages.

Beautiful black winged horses pulled them, and as I got in the carriage one of them nuzzled me. They were very sweet creatures, and I rather liked them.

After the smooth carriage ride we reached it.

The king of all Wizarding schools.

I grinned as I stared up at the graceful sweeps of the castle. "Fen-" I started, but he interrupted. "Shh. Just follow me." I followed him into the castle and into a massive room full of people laughing and chattering. "Sev!" a tall, pale blond haired boy called out, laughing. Sev jogged over to the green Slytherin table. "NEW STUDENTS OVER HERE! OVER HERE, PLEASE!" a giant of a man bellowed. His dark hair was long, curly, and a little matted, but he had a friendly face. Fen and I walked over. "Yeh firs' years now, yeh've got ter learn all the serbjects with the firs' years, no matter 'ow old yer are. Rules ere rules, no matter 'oo breaks 'em. Meh nem is Hagrid, yer'd do well ter remember tha'."

He spoke in a strange way, but I didn't mind. I wasn't one to judge. I was, after all, part magical creature. I just couldn't let the secret get out, or I'd be out of there faster than you could say Blaze.

Then the song started.

"Welcome one, welcome all, welcome to my merry hall.

I hope that you can listen well, for this is a most important spell.

Though one may wander near and far, a hat like me is very sparse.

If thou belongs in good Hufflepuff, kindness shall be your fame.

If you land in Ravenclaw, smarts is the second name.

If you get in Slytherin, you shall sure be warned: those who snitch on the naughty, shall surely be torn.

For those who get in Gryffindoor, I hope you listen well,

though loyalty may be quite prized, so are magic spells.

Whichever house thou lands in, you truly must beware:

Something lurks behind a face, wearing smooth black hair."

The song, of course, came from the Sorting Hat. I fingered my black hair nervously. That wasn't a good sign. Could the "Lurks behind a face," be me?
