Stay - HS

Alexia Roberts was just a normal British girl. 22 years old, working at a Starbucks in London. She had a perfectly boring future planned out before Harry Styles showed up and made it flawed, but also fun. When the end finally comes, it all depends on Alexia. Will she choose to stay or go?

35. Chapter 35

Alexia's POV

"Hey Hazel," I said, the phone pressed to my ear.

"Hey!"

She sounded a lot more enthusiastic since the last time I've heard her voice. But then again, that was almost a month ago.

"So how is everything?"

"Oh, it's all good. Brandon and I are back together!"

Did I hear her right? Probably not. "Who?"

"Brandon."

Okay, there must be something wrong with my ears. Wow, this was kind of like one of those books. Except the difference between the books and this real-life situation is that in the books, the character actually heard right but they're just in doubt. In this situation, I definitely heard her wrong. "Sorry, I keep hearing you say 'Brandon'. Mind speaking a little louder?"

"No, Lex. It is Brandon."

"Brandon? The one that tried coming onto me?"

"Yeah, is there something wrong?"

"Why?!"

"Well, he apologized and gave me a necklace. He promised he would never do it again."

She let him buy her back? I remember when Harry tried doing that. "And you believed him."

"Of course. I still have feelings for him, Lex."

"Then where is he right now."

Hazel didn't answer. Just as I thought she had hung up on me, she whispered, "I don't know."

I sighed. "Whatever. It's your call. I have to go, bye."

I hung up before she could respond. I didn't really have to go, I just really didn't want to talk about Brandon. Maybe that was selfish and rude of me, but oh well. What's done is done.

Whatever happened to Evan? We still don't text or call each other, even after we've made up. Well, I guess we couldn't anyways since we don't have each other's numbers. Did he even really 'change'? I haven't hung out with him enough to see, but truthfully, I didn't care enough to try and find out.

The door bursted open and Meghan popped her head into the room.

"Hey!" She sat down next to me.

"Hi! I thought you said you'd be back next week?"

"Change of plans."

"Mind telling me where you were?"

"Don't worry, I was just at my friend's house, trying to sort some things out."

"For a week?"

"Yeah."

I could tell that she didn't want to talk about it. She was obviously at Jason's house, trying to sort out her own feelings about whether she likes Jason or Harry. The look in her eyes at that hospital... it was a look of longing. Of course, I didn't really feel threatened. Harry loves me, not her. Is that rude?

"So uh, where's Harry?" she asked, trying to act like she didn't really care, but I know her well enough to know that she did. Maybe she thought she liked Harry more than Jason. Maybe she does like Harry more than Jason. Gosh, I could only hope not.

"He's in the U.S. His friend's anniversary."

"You look weird with your stitches."

"Yeah, thanks," I said sarcastically.

"I'm just being honest."

"Well, the truth can hurt."

"Lies hurt more."

We stared at each other, both knowing we weren't talking about how I looked anymore.

"Who?" I quietly asked.

"I still don't know." Meghan sighed. "I really do like Jason, but I realized I also really like Harry. I don't want to hurt you, Alexia. But what if my heart really wants Harry?"

"Then what about Jason?"

"Well... I told him we needed to take a break. It would be rude of me to be with him when I might not even like him."

"But you do like him."

"Okay, but it would be rude to stay with him if he didn't have my full heart."

"Oh, so now Harry has your full heart?"

"Maybe." Meghan shrugged, oblivious to the bitterness in my voice.

"I thought Jason made you happy."

"He does. He can be my best friend."

I shot up. "He seemed to really like you, Meghan. You probably broke his heart! And you think he'd want to be your best friend?"

Meghan gently placed her hand on my cast. "People move on. Please don't get mad, Lex. I'm sorry I can't control my feelings."

"You're talking like you've already made your choice."

The look she was giving me told me that she already had. And her choice was my boyfriend. I sat back down on the couch and sighed. Why was my life so complicated?

"I'm sorry," she repeated. "I wish I didn't like Harry, I truly do, but I do like him."

"So what are we going to do now?"

Meghan shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She had something that she wanted to say, but she knew it would make me mad. "We both take Harry on dates. Then we see which one he likes more."

"How do you know he'd want to go on a date with you?"

"You can tell him to. He listens to you."

Anger boiled in me. I stood. "I thought we were best friends, Meghan. Maybe we were just roommates all along."

With that, I stormed off into my room. I didn't have the comfort of Harry with me, and I haven't talked to any of my friends (if I could even call them friends anymore) that actually lived nearby in, well, forever, so I was basically alone. I plugged in my headphones and watched some youtube videos.

Harry's POV

I called Niall, determined to tell him about Jasmine. But as soon as he picked up, my determination was smothered under worry and hesitation.

"What's up?" he answered.

"How are you?"

"I'm fine, thanks. So why'd you call me?"

"I can't just call my best friend to check up on him?"

"You do that to your girlfriend, not me."

"Whatever. Alexia told me you had a crush?"

Niall paused. "Yeah."

He didn't offer any more information.

"Named...?" I pressed.

"Jasmine. Why do you want to know?"

"I have a friend named Jasmine." Then I added, "She's married."

"Cool."

Frustrated, I sighed. "I'm pretty sure she's the person you like. Brown hair, blue eyes...?"

"You know her? Wow, it's such a small world."

"Yeah, but you like a married person?!"

"There's nothing wrong with that, as long as I don't make a move. Plus, it'll probably just fade away soon."

"Maybe... I just don't want you to get hurt."

"I won't," he half-heartedly assured. "I got to go, bye."

"Call me if you need me."

"Of course."

Then he hung up.

I saw a group of my fans goggling at me from a corner. I waved at them, to which they responded in squeals. I tried to act cool and put on my sunglasses as I walked. My head was up so I couldn't see the step in front of me. I tripped and nearly fell. So much for seeming cool.
