Stay - HS

Alexia Roberts was just a normal British girl. 22 years old, working at a Starbucks in London. She had a perfectly boring future planned out before Harry Styles showed up and made it flawed, but also fun. When the end finally comes, it all depends on Alexia. Will she choose to stay or go?

17. Chapter 17

Alexia's POV

"Meghan!" I squealed and hugged her.

"How are you?! You never called!"

"Would you have answered?" I gave her a pointed look.

She smiled sheepishly. "Probably not."

"Why are you back anyways? Aren't you supposed to be with Harry?"

I explained everything.

"Ugh. Sydney? That girl who your ex cheated on with?"

"Yeah."

"She's with Harry now? Alone?! WHY ARE YOU HERE? YOU HAVE TO GO BACK AND RIP HER APART!"

I giggled. "I need a break from relationships. If Harry wants to break up with me to be with her, than that's fine. Well, not really, but I'll get over it."

"Do you want me to call him and give him a piece of my mind?"

"No, it's okay. You cleaned this place right?"

"Yep. I'm not that messy. Anyways, that's too bad because I forgot to tell you, I bought 2 front row tickets to Harry's show in Paris! I figured you would be backstage and you might want to see Harry from the front. So... you wanna go? Pleaseee?"

"No way."

"Please? For your best friend?"

"No."

"Pretty please with a cherry on top?"

I gave in. "Fine. When are we leaving?"

"Three days."

I went to my room and unpacked everything. Meghan followed me.

I made small talk. "How are you and Jason?"

"It's really good. We've been on 2 dates so far."

Harry and I have only been on one, I almost said. I was trying to forget Harry, I have to stop thinking of him. It didn't help that I still had the necklace he gave me, and that I now just see the carvings on the back that said 'Forever', but I refused to take it off.

"That's nice," I said instead.

"What about we go and get some drinks at Starbucks?"

"Oh my gosh, I totally forgot. I have to ask Rachel if I could work there again."

"I'm sure she'll say yes. She hasn't found one person that can work better than you that isn't already working there."

Starbucks

"Alexia! You're back!" Rachel greeted.

"Hey! I was wondering if I could work here again?"

"Of course. You still know your shifts?"

"Yep."

"Good. You're starting tomorrow." Rachel walked away.

Well... that was easy.

Meghan ordered our drinks. Passion tea lemonade for me, and a pumpkin spice latte for her. After getting them, we went to a nearby park and sat down under the trees.

"Thanks, Meghan. For trying to help me get my mind off Harry."

"No problem. Anytime."

I did forget about Harry while chatting with Meghan. Only until he called.

"Hey," I answered.

"Why did you leave?" Harry's raspy voice said. He sounded like he'd been crying. Damn it, Liam must have texted him.

"I think we need a break, Harry."

"Are you breaking up with me?" Harry sounded heartbroken. It tore up my heart too, but I really needed a break from him.

I inhaled sharply. "Yes."

"No, Lex. Please don't, I'm sorry. I'll do anything! Just don't leave me..."

"I love you, and I'm sorry too. Goodbye, Harry." I hung up and blinked the tears away.

Meghan didn't say anything, she just held me.

Harry's POV

After Alexia had broken up with me, I sat on the bed and stared at the wall. My limbs felt heavy. Why did I have to invite Sydney? I got a knock on the door.

"Harry?" Clare's voice asked.

I managed to move myself to the door and opened it.

"Woah, are you okay?"

"Yeah," I said tiredly.

"Can I come in?"

I opened the door wider. I followed her in after closing the door.

She looked around the room. "Where's Alexia?"

Her name...

I felt dizzy and almost fell. I sat down on the bed again and barely whispered, "She left."

Clare saw my tear stained cheeks, my puffy, red eyes, and pieced everything together.

"Oh, Harry. I'm so sorry. Do you want to talk about it?"

"I invited this girl to come with me, Liam and her to explore Paris but Alexia doesn't like her. Then I left Alexia behind and spent the rest of that time with the girl. Now she's gone."

Clare pulled me into a hug. "I'm not in the place to tell you what to do, but I hope you make the right decision. The band's going out for dinner, do you want to come?"

"No thanks."

Clare patted me on the back, then left.

I wanted to sleep, I really did. But all I could do was stare at the wall.

The whole night passed. The only times I got up from the bed was because I really had to go to the bathroom. I went into a trance of staring at the wall. I would sometimes drift off to sleep, just to wake up minutes after.

I couldn't go to my show like this, I had to see Alexia. She was the only thing that could cure me. Which was ironic because she kind of caused this. I gathered all my energy and rushed out the door without taking anything but my laptop, my phone, my wallet, and my duffel bag with only an outfit in it. I was lucky enough to get one of the flights leaving soon. I couldn't sleep on the plane either. Neither could I sleep in the taxi. My eyes felt droopy and I felt like I was going to drop down any moment now. The only thing that was keeping me awake was the need to be with Alexia, the need to be close to her, to breath in her amazing scent, and to look at her.

I knocked on her apartment door. It took a few minutes for someone to answer, but when the door opened, it was worth it. Her smile was wide and bright, showing off her dimples. Her eyes shone and sparkled.

Alexia's POV

My smile faded when I saw Harry. After staying up most of the night trying to forget him but horribly failing, Meghan finally took him off my mind this morning. Now he's here.

"Harry? What are you doing here?"

"Alexia-" Harry stumbled down the hall and into my room. "I... I needed to see you." He fell asleep as soon as he flopped on the bed.

Meghan came in. "What is he doing here?"

"I don't know. He just came in and fell asleep."

"You gonna wait for him to wake up?"

"I got to leave for work in a few minutes. I'll leave him a note."

"Speaking of work, I have to go to work now! See you, Lex."

"Bye!"

After Meghan left, I sat on the bed beside the sleeping Harry.

I looked at his peaceful features and watched as his stomach rose with every breath. Seeing Harry made me realize how much I missed him.

I couldn't spend much time being a pervert and watching him sleep because I had to go to work. But first, I booked a flight back to Paris for him. Then I covered him with the blanket and left.

After making a few drinks, I felt incredibly proud of myself.

Yesss, I still got the touch baby.

A man came in. Brown, tousled hair and blue eyes. He looked at me for a few seconds and something in his eyes changed. "Hi!"

"Hello, what can I get you?"

"Do you have a Harry here? A Harry Styles?"

"What? No. Um, sorry?"

"I'm Louis."

My jaw dropped. "Louis Tomlinson?"

"Yep. Harry told me he's was dating this beautiful woman and sent me a picture of you. You were sleeping. So I assumed if you're here, he must be here, right?"

Harry's such a creep. A cute creep. "He's asleep in my apartment."

"Did you kidnap him?" Louis joked.

"Maybe."

"May I see him?"

"Sure. Can you wait until I finish my shift?"

"Can I uh, help you?"

"You know how to do this stuff?"

"Yep. My friend taught me once."

I thought about it. What do I have to lose? Rachel will forgive me, she always does. "Fine."

Louis hopped over the counter even though there was an open space that was meant for employees to walk in and out of the drink making place thing (I don't know what you call that). I gave him an apron.

Another man came in. He had curly blonde hair and blue eyes (no, it was not Niall, Niall didn't have curly hair). A piece of his curls fell out from the rest of his hair and hung on his forehead. He pushed it back with his hand, combing the rest of his hair. That's what Harry does. I have to admit, he's really hot but not my type.

"It isn't nice to stare." He smirked.

"Huh? Oh, sorry."

"I'll have a vanilla bean frappachino. Grande please."

"Got it."

"The name's Brandon."

I wrote the name down on the cup and handed it to Louis. He started making the drink while Brandon payed.

"What's your name?" He asked.

Does no one ever read the name tags? "Um, mine is Alexia."

"Pretty name for a pretty woman."

I kind of liked how this guy came on so fast. It's intriguing. I bet he was known as the player in school. He might still be one now.

"Thank you."

"Do you live around here?"

"Yep, do you?"

"Yeah. Hmm, I seem to have lost my number, can I get yours?" Brandon winked.

I rolled my eyes. "So original."

I gave him my number and he saved it into his phone.

Then Louis handed Brandon his drink and butted in. "Uh, she's taken."

"Is that so?" Brandon raised a teasing eyebrow. "Who's the lucky guy?"

"No, I'm not- I'm not taken. Single as a pringle." I laughed awkwardly.

"Good." Brandon winked again. He left.

Louis eyebrows scrunched together. "What do you mean you're not taken?"

"I broke up with Harry."

"So... do you like that guy?"

"Ew, no. He might be a good friend, but never boyfriend. I'm more into brunettes." Specifically Harry.

"Cool."

Louis and I talked while making drinks for the customers, getting to know each other.

Harry was still asleep by the time we got back. He looked exhausted when he appeared at the door, but I didn't know he was that tired. I'm actually kind of grateful that he didn't wake up before I came back because I forgot to leave him a note.

I was about to go to the kitchen, giving Harry the sleep he most likely needed, but Louis had no mercy. He jumped on Harry and screamed in his ear.

"Wha?" Harry sat up groggily.

"Hey man!" Louis bounced on Harry's legs.

Harry winced. "How have you been?"

Louis got off the bed. "I'm good. How are you? I got told you uh..."

Harry finally noticed I was there, leaning against the door frame. "Lex."

Louis sensed that Harry and I wanted to talk and said to me, "I should be going now."

"Didn't you say you wanted to talk to Harry?"

"Nothing important. Bye!" With that, Louis made his way out the door.

I stayed where I was. "What are you doing here?"

Since I didn't go to him, he came to me. "I'm sorry."

I could barely speak. Breathing in his scent was overwhelming. "That doesn't change anything, Harry."

"I know. But I love you too much. I don't think I can do this alone."

"That's what you think. I know you can. You should go. You'll be late for your flight."

"What flight?"

I reached out my hand. He gave me his phone. I pulled out the online ticket thing I sent to him. "Here. You'll need a good nights sleep."

"But Lex-"

"It's done, Harry."

"It's not just a break?" The pain in his voice was enough for me to almost start crying.

"It's over. We're over."

We stared into each other's eyes, tears pricking them.

"Bye, Alexia." Harry retrieved his bag and walked out the front door, slamming the door behind him.

"Bye," I whimpered.

I slid down the door until I was in a sitting position with my arms hugging my legs. The tears soon clouded my vision and slid down my cheeks. I thought about the day we first met. How could we have been separated like this? His fan, my ex-best friend... thinking about it, a lot was pulling us apart along the way. We just never realized it. I hope that one day I'll be able to piece the broken shards of my heart together, because I just let my everything walk out that door, and that hurts. More than anything.

Someone pounded on the door. "Alexia, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you! I won't do it again, I'll tell Sydney to leave! Was it because I wasn't spending enough time for you? I'll- I'll make more time for you! I'll buy you anything you want, even if it's unreasonable and stupid! I'll do anything. I'll even by your slave for the rest of your life!"

I didn't budge. I didn't really care for money, my grandpa was rich and handed down everything he owned to me on his will. I gave the house to my parents. I didn't need a mansion, I was perfectly fine in my cozy and humble abode. My grandma gave me most of her jewelry. My grandparents loved me 'cause like, I'm the best and I'm way more awesome than Elizabeth. Just kidding. Maybe. Heck, I didn't even have to work and that money would last me my whole life. I work for the fun of it. Meeting new people is just so fun, you know? So I was really glad when Harry, Louis, and Brandon actually chatted with me instead of just telling me their order. Why am I thinking of this now?

Harry tried again. "I love you. For who you are. You're amazing. You're smart, kind, generous, compassionate, and not afraid to stand up for yourself and others that you care about." I heard him slide down the door and sit in the same position I was now. At least, that's what I assumed he did. "Remember that time when we were in France - like, 2 days ago - and you spoke French so fluently with that women? I was astonished. I thought you were superwoman or something. I once tried speaking Italian. I said I anus you instead of I love you. And when we were on our disastrous first date, spaghetti was spilled on you and all you did was slurp it off. You didn't freak out and rush to the bathroom like most girls. When we were on that roof top, I almost asked you to marry me. Not that I had a ring. We had such good times. I don't want to let that go. I love you too much to let you go. I've fallen for you so fast, but so hard. I really hope we can make it to our second date. I find it weird that we've only had one so far. Please, Alexia. Don't let me go."

Harry started to sing. His voice filled my mind with joy.

Now you were standing there right in front of me
I hold on it's getting harder to breathe
All of a sudden these lights are blinding me
I never noticed how bright they would be

I saw in the corner there is a photograph
No doubt in my mind it's a picture of you
It lies there alone in it's bed of broken glass
This bed was never made for two

I'll keep my eyes wide open
I'll keep my arms wide open

Don't let me
Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of feeling alone

Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of feeling alone

I promised one day that I'd bring you back a star
I caught one and it burned a hole in my hand, oh
Seems like these days I watch you from afar
Just trying to make you understand
I'll keep my eyes wide open, yeah

Don't let me
Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of feeling alone

Don't let me
Don't let me go

Don't let me
Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of feeling alone

Don't let me
Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of feeling alone

Don't let me
Don't let me go
Cause I'm tired of sleeping alone

I still didn't budge, but a tiny smile tugged on the corner of my lips through the waterfall of tears.

"I know you're there. If you don't want me, don't open the door and I'll leave. Forever. I won't bother you again. But if you want me to stay, open the door."

I didn't move. A minute passed. I heard a sigh, then footsteps getting fainter and fainter.

My sense kicked in. God damn it, I couldn't let him leave me forever. I wiped away the tears and snot, stood up, swung open the door, and stepped out. Harry was slowly walking down the hall but turned around. I took one look at his tears still flowing, and ran towards him. He dropped his bag and spread him arms apart, welcoming me into a hug.

When he set me down, I punched his chest. "Don't ever give up so easily."

"Then don't ever leave me."

"Deal."

We pinky swore.

"Are we dating again now?"

I shrugged though I was secretly hoping he'd say yes. "If you want."

"Duh. Do you want to come back with me?"

"I still think I should stay here."

Harry's face fell. "Oh. Okay."

"We'll see each other again!" In a few days.

***

Concert time

Meghan and I bought Harry's merch. We bought a hat and a shirt each.

"It's really weird wearing my boyfriend's face on my boobs." I studied the shirt on me.

"You look amazing." Meghan clapped her hands approvingly.

"You too. Let's go, we're going to be late because of you."

"If you gotta go, you gotta go! Plus, I saved you from fans trying to ask you questions about Harry."

I rolled my eyes. Meghan and I rushed out of the bathroom and into the theatre which Harry was going to play in.

When the curtain fell, everyone screamed, including me. Meghan was right. Seeing Harry's front is so much more magical than seeing his back most of the time. Harry didn't notice me until he was clapping hands. When he reached me, he had a surprised expression on his features. Giving my hand a little squeeze, he grinned, then moved on. Throughout the concert, I caught his eye many times. Meghan and I screamed and sang along until our throats hurt. We waited outside for Harry. When he did come, he pulled us into a huge hug.

"You did such a good job!" Meghan gushed.

"Thank you." Harry smiled and kissed her cheek.

"In any other case, I would be a tiny bit jealous. But this is not any other case. I guess you could call it a nut case, eh?" I wiggled my eyebrows, overly proud of myself for making that joke.

Meghan's POV

Harry offered to drive us to the airport since he was going there too with his band, but Alexia and I wanted to take a cab.

I left to go to the bathroom so Harry kept Alexia company. When I came back, they were furiously texting on their phones with annoyed looks on their faces.

Alexia read something. "You did not!" She texted something back.

"Oh really?" Harry glared at her, then texted something.

"I can't believe you right now!"

"Me? I can't believe you!"

"Uh, guys?-"

"GO AWAY." Alexia shouted without looking up from her phone. Then she realized it was me and stood up from her sitting position. "Lets go, Meg."

She pulled me along.

"Bye Harry!" I waved goodbye. Then I asked Alexia, "What happened?"

"He's such an asshole!"

Alexia angrily called a taxi.

"What happened?" I tried again in the car.

She opened her mouth to say something but her phone rang. "Hello?... Aw, I'm sorry too... I love you too... Yeah, we'll Skype each other in the morning... Tonight? How about I call you tonight and we'll Skype in the morning?... Okay, love you, bye... Hang up!... No, you hang up!... If you've already had this conversation with James, than don't have it with me and hang up!... Hang up, Harry... I'm not going to hang up! You do it-"

I took her phone. "Hi, this is Meghan. Bye." I hung up, then handed it back to Alexia. "I did a good deed today."
