Nervously, I waited on the plastic seat outside the room she was in. Emily was finishing her last session of surgery today, and she’d finally have her dream; she was going to be a full female.

I picked at my nail varnish which peeled onto the floor in front of me. The door opened, and I saw my perfect girlfriend stood there with a massive smile on her face. “What do you think?” she laughed as she spun around in a small circle.

I took her hand and rubbed her smooth skin. “You’re beautiful.”

She kissed my cheek and I led her out of the hospital. She was perfect in every way. Emily Rose Walsh, the most perfect girl I’ve ever known. The girl who has always been and will always be by my side. She means so much to me, and I couldn’t imagine my life without her.

She’s been through some battles. She hid behind this pretend personality for so many years, trying to “fit in” with the rest of the guys. But she always knew deep down that she was different. She knew she wasn’t into football or being gross, she knew she wanted to be a girl. It took her a while to come out to anyone, and when she did, she was rejected. I rejected her when I shouldn’t have. I should’ve realised how much guts and courage it takes to come out.

We went down to the cafe, where we met Suki, Lewis, Lena, Cody, Laine and Ash. We all decided to go on a date together, as friends and as couples. We have been through a lot together in the past few months, and it has been really stressful.

Suki and Lewis called themselves official when she started going to Kim. She’s relapsed once, but her rehab programme is going well and she’s on her road to recovery. Lewis has stood by her side the whole time, and he’s dealt with her when she’s being difficult. He knows how to cope, and he knows what to do when she gets emotional and starts panicking. She still gets paranoid that some man we see is Dan, but she’s getting better.

Laine has still got her scholarships, and her and her mum have been in touch a lot more. Her mum is proud of her for coming out, and they’re all going to gay pride in the summer. She’s so happy that her daughter has found someone who makes her feel so good about herself. Ashley and Laine are still performing, and Laine’s becoming more and more famous as the days go on. She's performing in theatres all around the country!

As for me, well, everything is absolutely perfect. I have the most wonderful relationship with my beautiful girlfriend and I couldn't be happier. Sometimes, it takes a lot of darkness and twists and turns before you get to the good in life. Before you can comfortably say you are truly happy, and mean it. Everyone has a journey in life with bumps and sadness, but in the end, everything will be okay.

I promise.
