Now that I’m out of hospital and I’m almost fully recovered, I decided it would be a good idea to finally meet up with Katrina. We’ve been messaging since I woke up, and she’s always wishing me well and hoping I’m okay. Secretly, I know she really wants to ask me to meet her, but she knows that I need to be fully recovered. I decided to message her on Wednesday night to meet up at the weekend.

Amber: Hey, do you fancy meeting up on Saturday?xo

Katrina: Omg are u kidding?? I’d love to! But are you fully recovered?

Amber: Yup otherwise I wouldn’t ask to meet u aha xox

Katrina: Omg I’m so hyped! What time n where?

Amber: Same time and place as we arranged to meet before?xo

Katrina: Park bench at 1pm?

Amber: Yassss xo

Katrina: I’m so excited eek see you then!

When it got to Saturday, I got up super early. I spent most of the morning messaging Katrina saying how excited I was! I put on my favourite blue jeans and a blue and white striped t-shirt, along with my blue ballerina pumps. I straightened my hair and did all of my makeup. I left the dorm and got on the earlier train, just so I could go into the mini jewellry shop near the park and get some friendship bracelets for us.

I went into the shop and looked around at all of the cute necklaces and bracelets. There were so many cute ones, but my favourite was two necklaces that had half of the ying-and-yang symbol on them, and they connected with a magnet. I decided they were perfect, so I took them to the counter and paid.

I arrived at the park ten minutes early. I decided to sit down on the bench and wait for her. She told me that she has pale skin, short brown hair, and blue eyes. She said she’d be wearing blue jeans and a red t-shirt, so I was looking out for her. Another part of the mystery of meeting her was finally seeing her face, as her inner camera on snapchat was broken and we never got chance to facetime.

A few minutes had gone by when I saw an outline of a girl in the distance. She looked around my age, and had brown hair to her shoulders, and pale skin. She was wearing a long sleeved yellow top and a denim pinafore, though. I decided that she perhaps decided to wear something different. I stood up and waved at the figure approaching me. As she got closer, I noticed she had blue eyes. I felt so excited, but then it dawned on me that this girl was looking at me strangely. “Are you Katrina?” I asked.

The girl shook her head. “No love, sorry. Wrong person.”

Once the girl had walked past, I slumped back down on the bench. I really thought it was Katrina. As time was going by, I was getting bored. I decided to start playing Candy Crush on my phone, as I was certain Katrina would recognise me as soon as she got here.

Time went by, and I noticed it said 1:15pm. I looked around, but all I saw was a man wearing jeans and a hoodie, leaning against a tree smoking a cigarette. I looked back down at my phone and decided to message Katrina;

Where are ya boo?xox

When I looked up, the smoking man was approaching me. He stubbed out his cigarette against one of the trees and smiled at me when he was closer. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked as he sat down on the bench next to me.

I shifted a little further away from him. “Yes thanks, I’m just waiting for my friend.”

“Oh right, is she running late?” he asked.

I tapped my phone screen. “I think so. She hasn’t messaged me yet.” I decided to send her another message;

Plz hurry. Creepy dude sat next to me lmao xox

As I sent it, the man’s phone pinged in his pocket. “You best get that,” I laughed as I looked at pocket, where I could see the outline of his phone.

“I’m sure it can wait love,” he replied, “after all Amber, your friend is here now. You can stop messaging her.”

I looked around, but I couldn’t see anyone. “She’s not he-... wait, how do you know my name?”

I jumped up and sent another message to Katrina. His phone pinged again. “Is your friend now answering?” He took off his hoodie to reveal a red t-shirt. I looked at the man, and noticed his short brown hair and his blue eyes, his pale skin… wearing the exact same clothes Katrina said she was going to wear.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

“Who are you?” I demanded as I started walking backwards away from him.

He stood up. “I know you pretty well Amber, thanks for telling me everything about you.”

I started running away, but he was just as fast as me, so he was running very close behind me. I started screaming as I ran out of the park gates and down the hill, heading towards the bus station. He was only a few feet behind me, and I could hear him calling my name. I realised then and there that I’d made a huge mistake, that “Katrina Nutt” doesn’t actually exist, and the creep who was chasing me down the hill was in fact pretending to be a girl my age. I realised then and there that I should’ve checked ‘Katrina’’s profiles and ensured that they were real before going to meet ‘her’. I should never have been so stupid. As I ran down that hill, I wondered what the hell this man was going to do to me. He knew about my family, where I live, where I go to school, he could easily pull out a perfume bottle and cause an asthma attack so I had no control. He could do absolutely anything and I lead him to it.

I ran around the corner and tripped over a bottle. He was stood over me. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me towards the car park. I let out some screams, hoping somebody would hear me. He carried on dragging me towards a car, and opened the boot. “Excuse me, Sir?” I heard a voice behind him.

He pushed me in the boot and spun around, to see a police man stood glaring at me. I was crying, shaking, trying to steady my breathing and my heart rate. “Is everything okay here?”

The man slammed his boot shut and ran. The police man went running after him, and another opened the boot and looked at me. “Ma’am, are you okay?”

I shook my head and cried some more. I couldn’t believe how fucking stupid I’d been.

I had to go down to the police station to give a statement about what exactly happened. They caught the man pretending to be Katrina, and I found out his real name is Samuel Miller. He has been arrested for pedophilia in the past, so there is no surprise that he’s back in the interview room again, being questioned on his intentions.

A lady walked into the interview room where I was sat. She handed me a coffee and smiled at me. She started the tape, and asked, “How exactly did you manage to get yourself involved with Samuel Miller?”

I took a sip of my coffee and cleared my throat. “I was talking to him online. He said his name was Katrina Nutt, and he told me he was the same age as me. We got talking and I believed he was Katrina, and I thought we would be best friends and stuff. But now I think about it, the fact that we never video called and he never sent selfies, I should’ve realised it was fake all along. His fake social media sites seem pretty sketchy now, thinking about it. But then we arranged to meet and I didn’t know what to expect, I was just so happy to finally be meeting my internet friend. Then he sat next to me and kept talking to me… and whenever I sent Katrina a message, his phone buzzed. I realised eventually that the strange man who innocently sat next to me on a bench was actually pretending to be like me to lure me into his trap… but I’ve told him so much… like about my boyfriend wanting a sex change, and he knows who my family are and where I live and where I go to school…”

She reached over and held my hand. “It’s okay darling, we all make mistakes. We all trust people we shouldn’t trust, and we don’t even think about the odd possibilities, because we believe that stuff only happens on TV and not in real life,” she paused, “but we will ensure that you are safe from him.”
