Up There so High

What do you get when you have a space fanatic, a runaway princess and a bunch of miscreants? Well, you get the three E's; Explosions, Expletives and Enemies.
You may not laugh along with this story but you may sing (because the main space man is very much fond of that).

~The New Life~

~Everett~

It was exactly eight forty-seven on a cold Tuesday evening when there was a knock on his apartment door. Everett stumbled blearily to it, his head a mess with possibilities on how he could demonstrate his intergalactic journey to the world. He didn’t want to keep it a secret but he didn’t want to expose Zeld entirely, and it was a dilemma that he didn't know how to fix.

He was in nothing but boxers and a pizza-stained shirt and he met the different coloured eyes of a man that looked like a ginger unshorn sheep. He blinked up at his visitor, who had ginger hair sweeping down to his shoulders and a leather jacket across his shoulders. A shard of purple stone hung from a chain around his neck, hidden partially by the neck of his shirt. The man was tall with thin lips and a beard that rivalled Everett’s five o’clock shadow any day.

“Everett Tyson?” He asked and leaned against the side of the door.

“Yeah, who’s asking?” Everett blinked further and wondered if he was dreaming. There was something about this man that didn’t sit right with him, some parts of him wanted to converse with the man and the other parts wanted to slam the door in his face and retreat back to his room.

“I believe Skylar mentioned me at one point?” The man sighed, brushing a hand through his hair, “and I think you should let me in?”

Skylar’s name made alarm bells whistle inside his head. How did this man know? Everett had only told his friends that he had managed to go to another planet a whole galaxy away, and when they questioned him further on it Abby offered that Everett proved Zeld’s existence to make sure that the whole thing wasn’t a hallucinogenic trip.

“Who are you?” Everett questioned, needing to know the man’s identity before he did anything risky.

“I am the Sole Protector, you may know me as one of the creators of Earth.” The man cockily said and Everett let him in straight away. What else could he do? Skylar had told him about this man, the visitor who had taken her to the beach and told her the secrets of Earth, the very secrets that she hadn’t even told Everett.

Once the man was let in, it all went downhill from there. Nothing bad happened but mentally, it all went downhill.

The Sole Protector gazed around the apartment with an air of brilliance, “I must admit I haven’t been back to Earth since its creation but I felt compelled to once The Miracle was destroyed.”

“How do you know all of this?” Everett asked as the Sole Protector sat on his sofa and looked at everything with awe. It was then that he was thankful that Morton wasn’t in, getting tacos from the Mexican vendor down the street. Knowing Morton, he would be there for a few rounds before he brought anything back for Everett.

“I am Leandro of the Sole Protectors, the only one left, I have to know everything that concerns Earth and when you travelled to Zeld, the first human to accomplish a feat outside of the galaxy we created, I had to follow your motions. I’ve been watching you from afar and when you came back I knew that I had to meet with you directly.”

“But why?” Everett asked, not understanding a single word that left Leandro’s mouth.

“Because you travelling to Zeld was not just a coincidence, the Entity wanted it so and therefore it happened. The Entity, one of the Gods of Magick, sent you as a warning. The Miracle was just a test and when Tisera escaped the Warded she left an open door for other Beings of Chaos to follow. Many more have escaped and disappeared. Many more have become angry and bloodthirsty. They hunt for Colosseo, they hunt for destruction and I have come to prepare you for that.”

Everett was made speechless, “The Beings of Sentience gave me The Knowledge,” he replied dumbly and Leandro laughed at him.

“I know, I saw it and that is partially what I mean by preparation,” he paused and moved closer to Everett on the sofa. The one green eye and the other blue eye twinkled in Everett’s direction as a hand came up to grace across Everett’s forehead. “I came to show you how the Earth came to be, the secrets of the Universe and the very location of Colosseo. I came to give you everything you know so that when the time comes you and the Wardens can defend the Universe once more.”

“The Wardens?” Everett asked.

“I liked the name when you came up with it, and you are effectively warding the monsters away from the universe in the same way that the Warded tried to do.” Leandro shrugged and so the bunch of miscreants that Everett knew became the Wardens.

"Out of the depths of the universe, the darkest corners, the kind of dark you couldn't even begin to perceive, came existence. It was a cruel diamond, a beautiful war, a chaotic, wonderful thing. But it was there, I even helped create it and I have kept it a secret for far too long." The words, spoken from Leandro's curled mouth, were muttered, whispered and the words rattled in the cages of Everett's consciousness.

Leandro’s thumb pressed into the space between his eyebrows and Everett’s eyes reflected the universe as he saw how Earth was created.
