DARK DOG (BARKING AT THE WORLD)

At the start of the year the universe was calling me to write a new set of poems. I let the ideas that I had sit with me for a while and then I set about writing out what would be the storyline into what the poems would fit. It seemed the work would involve written set pieces and poetry. I was all set to go and then...... THE WORLD SEEMED TO GO CRAZY! It became clear to me that I was not being called to write out MY idea but that I needed to report on what was happening in the world and how it was making me feel.

the BLACK dog is a term used to describe depression and it a dark dog. As I started this work we are in a very dark, depressing time in the world and I had to reflect on that. So this is me, the Dark dog, barking back at the world! This is very much a live piece of work as we turn through this year. I also have my reflections in here, on my own thoughts, feelings and life. This is my heart open and my soul on show for anyone to see. It is me being brave, I hope you enjoy!

67. THE MAN AND THE TREE

"Are these the growing pains I have to go through?"

The tree looked at the man standing with the axe

"I have to cut you down, it's my job"

The tree thought for a moment

"It's not a very nice job!"

The man rested the axe on the ground and knelt down

"Think of what you will become!"

"I like being a tree. I like my purpose"

The man sighed. "You could become pages of a book."

The tree took in this information

"I could be used for someone to write something horrid, held within me for years!"

"You could be used for school books!"

"I could be used to light a fire!" The tree trembled shaking its leafs

"Well, you don't have a choice!" Said the man

"NO, But you DO!" The tree fell silent

Picking up the axe the man closed his eyes

"It is the way it has to be." He said

"I will never bear fruit" wept the tree

The axe sliced into the tree

All around the forest screamed

The man could hear the leafs all shaking

The ground began to quake

The Earth opened and pulled him down

further and further until his own screams drowned

There in the ground all alone

no one would find him

No tombstone!
