Charlie had told her that a chicken was a chicken no matter where you bought it. But she swore by the taste that it was better. Laura got her usual 10 % discount off all of her shopping so she came home happy. Charlie prepared all the vegetables the night before par boiling them so they didn’t take much cooking. And Elizabeth used the new Bisto gravy granules and readymade Yorkshire puddings. All she did was roast the bird or cook the pork. Charlie did all of the washing up because Elizabeth said she had slaved after him all week.

Most of the week she was out with her friends having coffee or going shopping. God forbid if he asked her to iron him a shirt. On Sunday morning Charlie was up at 7 a.m. He ran the hoover around the house and then put the weekly washing on. Then he went out to either cut the lawns or see to his plants. At nine o’clock he was off down to his pigeon loft to let out his birds. Whilst they were flying around he tended his allotment garden. He grew a wide selection of vegetables which he cooked each night to go with his microwavable meat. In the summer he ate his salad crops with chicken or boiled ham and new potatoes.

Almost a year after her divorce from Sandy Longmuir, David Brenton took Cassie on holiday to Ibiza. He thought that the sun and relaxation would help her to forget her ordeal. She had been receiving some counselling since her rape. David had sold the house in Jesmond and moved to Seaton Delaval. The house in Jesmond held too many bad memories for Cassie. David thought that a new home would be a fresh start for them both. He had not put any pressure on her at all. In fact the ordeal had brought them even closer together.  The In visa hotel la cala in Santa Eulalia was five star accommodation. The food was first class in the local restaurants. San Martino’s, Canasina, and Sa Carboneria being their favourites. They hired a car and visited Es Cana where they visited Moe’s bar and Charlie’s night club where they watched many live acts. The cycled along the harbour watching the catamarans and the ferries come and go. They relaxed on the beaches and swam in the sea. For two weeks Cassie seemed normal again. They made love under the stars.  David thought that It was marvellous having her back to her normal happy self again; David waited until their last night out together where he got down on one knee in Bar Dona Ana and asked her to marry him.’

Without hesitating Cassie said “yes.’ And he was the happiest man alive as he slipped a ten carat diamond ring on her finger. David could not tell her what he had done to her ex-husband. It had cost him a lot of money but now he was certain that Cassie would not be bothered by Longmuir again.

Sandy Longmuir had moved to Thailand with his lover Pai and his son Thom.’ He’d spent over two weeks in hospital with severe internal injuries after his rectum was ruptured. He had resigned from the Fulmar Oil (TEC) and was now working in America for OPEC Oil. Sandy was afraid that his name would be forever tarnished if the video they had taken of him was ever made public. He kept a very low profile. He never knew that the people who had done that to him were linked to David Brenton.

He thought that it was just retribution for abusing some woman in the past; he had been with a few girls who were connected to people who were capable of murder. He spent more time with his son and for once in his life became a real family man. He taught his son how to play rugby and even set up a local league in Phuket with other ex-pats. Thom was doing well in his school work and the extra tuition he was receiving was helping him greatly.
