Delray gave Mickey a menacing look as he touched gloves.

Norman close said: “William’s in the red corner Clément’s in the blue prepare for action inside the ring.’ He stepped down from the ring apron as the two men waited for the bell to sound. When it did Williams came rushing out with his hands low and flicked out a jab. Mickey just slipped it over his shoulder then returned the jab which caught the Sheffield man on his left eye. Williams backed away and used his glove to check to see if the eye was cut.

He bounced around showboating in front of Mickey as the crowd of Newcastle fans urged their man to move forward.

Mickey moved into punching range and threw two jabs. The first was a feeler and the second connected. Williams fell into a clinch trying to rough Mickey up but mickey threw two fast hooks to the body of Williams which made him let go and cover up. William’s got on his bike after that and for the rest of the round stayed out of distance.

The second round was much the same as the first; with Williams trying to stay out of range and then launching a surprise of combination punches. Mickey just walked through them and landed three solid punches which had Williams bouncing off the ropes. He was now cutting off the ring space that Delray William’s had and forcing him to punch his way out of trouble. This left him open for a good counter and Mickey caught him with a good body shot and followed up with a crunching left hook. Delray was hurt and held on until his head cleared. The bell went to end the round. And Mickey came back to his corner with a satisfied look on his face.

Brendan ingle was screaming at his man to box and not get involved in a brawl. “You are not going to knock this guy out Del boy so use your boxing skills for Christ sake.’

Evelyn looked over at Mickey as his corner were giving him advice.

Mickey came out for the third round and stepped up the pace he was throwing punches to the body then bringing them up to the head. Mickey caught Delray William’s again with a good shot and blood trickled from a cut over his left eye. Mickey seeing it seemed spurred on and went after his man with lefts and rights. William’s was in trouble on the ropes. Ingles was screaming from the corner for Williams to get off the ropes and get the centre of the ring. His calls went unanswered as Mickey pummelled him to the body then a right hand bounced off Delray’s chin and down he went. Mick ran straight to a neutral corner as Brian Steele took up the count.  Delray bravely got to his feet at the count of seven and the fight was waved on. Mickey measured his man with a left then another powerful right hit him high on the head and he slumped to the floor. Brian steel could see that he would not beat the count and the fight was over. Mickey waited until Delray got to his feet before commiserating with him.

Evelyn was clapping as Mickey came to where she was sitting. He looked down over the top rope at her and smiled and she smiled back. “See you soon he said: as the official announcement was made by Norman close.

“After one minute twenty two seconds of the third round Delray William’s unable to continue was counted out.’ “Your winner and still undefeated British title contender is Magic Mickey Clément’s.’

He was interviewed by radio Newcastle after the fight and said that he was surprised that the fight ended so quickly because Delray is a good fighter. He went on to say that he was looking forward to meeting Brian Lyon for the British title.
