Chapter 8

Letting Carlisle go I felt embarrassed by my actions. I didn't know what to say after my little break down. Everyone looked at me silently, concern evident on their faces.

"How is this possible?" Jasper asked.

"I don't know," Carlisle said.

"How do you feel Ariella?" Esme asked looking concerned.

"Fine." I blushed and heard someone inhale deeply — I saw that it was Jasper as he held his breath.

"Breath Jasper," I told him and much to my surprise he listened. If possible the room became quieter than before. It was as if they were all stunned into complete silence. Did I do something wrong?

"You okay Ariella?" Fred asked me. I smiled.

"I'm just tired."

"Let's get you in bed so you can rest," Carlisle said. He picked me up and carried me to my room. Everyone waited as I went into my closet to change into my nigh clothes. I felt exhausted, both mentally and physically. As I re-entered my room I said goodnight to the family. Esme and Carlisle were last to exit.

"Ariella you can call us mom and dad if you want, we don't mind," Esme assured.

"Really?" I smiled, earning their smiles in return.

"Of course," Carlisle urged. I couldn't help but feel emotional. No matter how hard I tried I didn't understand why they would want me in their family. No one has ever wanted me — not really. Those guys did.

"Thank you mom and dad." I hugged them. After saying goodnight they left the room and I lie awake thinking of my previous thought until I eventually fell asleep.

Even after a week I couldn't stay awake. Every time I wanted to stay up it seemed almost impossible to do. I heard dad say that it wasn't a good thing. I needed to eat or I would suffer from food deprivation. I had to be hooked up to an I.V. and even with all the sleep that I had gotten I was still tired. I kept having nightmares of being stuck in the orphanage or about when I was raped. It hurts to admit, but sometimes I think that my gift is nothing but bad luck, yet other times it's the best thing I've ever had, before I was adopted at least.

Waking up from another nightmare, I opened my eyes and cried. The door to my room opened and in walks my dad.

"What's wrong Ariella?" He wore a look of concern. I felt like a coward. Everything at the moment seemed bleak.

"Nothing dad," I lied.

"You can tell me sweetie." He sat beside me on the bed. I pondered whether to tell him and with some thinking I came to a conclusion of what to say.

"I've been having nightmares," I whispered.

"What about?"

"The orphanage and the night I came here."

"When those guys chased you?" I nodded.

"May I ask you some questions?" I nodded again, at that moment I couldn't speak as I was too afraid that my voice would betray me.

"Do you remember how many guys there were?"

"Yes," my voice cracked. I heard the door open as someone walked in, but I didn't look up. I was too embarrassed.

"How many?" He asked.

"Five I think."

"Can you tell me what happened?" I knew that telling him was a good idea I mean he's my father now, but I was afraid of how he would view me. I didn't want pity or sad looks.

Looking up I turned my head and stared at the big glass window.

"I was born different. I have a gift that allows me to see the past, present, and future of anyone. I had a vision of myself running and coming to your house for help — it scared me. One day the older kids were let out to go were they wanted so I went to the park. The park was a town over and I knew where it was. I was there for hours when I realized that the sun was going to set. I started walking and I ended up lost; by then it was dark out. I had walked down a street and turned a corner. While walking some guys were calling to get my attention, but I ignored them. They caught up and brought me to the woods, we went a little far. Of course luck wasn't with me because, I had a vision of Alice telling you guys about me being in her vision. She said that a human girl was coming to your house. When I snapped back to reality one of the guys was on top of me..."

I was crying again, I couldn't look at him. "I looked and saw that my skirt was up and my underwear were off. I panicked and used all my strength to push him off of me. Of course it hurt but I ignored it and ran. When I was running I noticed that it was just like my vision. I heard them behind me, but when I saw your house I knew I was safe and you guys were expecting me." I finally looked at him and now realizing the person who entered was Rosalie. She wore so many expressions, they kept changing from anger, to pain, to sadness, to pity, then hatred. I was beginning to feel distraught. Dad kept his expression calm, but I could see sadness and anger in his eyes.

"Please don't pity me," I said angrily.

"Ariella. We are your family, it's only natural that we would feel compassion for you as well as anger. We hate those who did that to you," Rosalie spoke in a serious tone.

"I'm sorry," dad said.

"Why?" I was confused.

"Because you didn't deserve that, no one does. I wish I could have prevented it." Rosalie stood behind him looking thoughtful.

"What are you?" I blurted without thinking. They both seemed taken aback.

"I know I'm not normal and neither are you guys. Can you tell me please?" I had to know now that I revealed what is my biggest secret. As if he were waiting for something he looked at me than nodded.

"You can't tell anyone. It will be the death of us all if you do. Do you understand?" he asked.

"We're vampires."

I felt calm and unfazed. Unfortunately, that didn't last long as I looked around and a wave of nausea hit me.

"I don't feel so good."

"What's wrong?" dad asked.

"I'm going to throw up." Before I knew it a bucket was in front of me.

"Thanks," I said to Fred after I emptied the bile that ejected itself threw my mouth. I felt better. Where did he come from?

"You need to eat. Esme can you get her something," dad said as if she could hear from down stairs.

And to my surprise she came into the room with food for me. After I ate I decided to get some more sleep. Telling them was a good idea, it made me feel a little better. Before going to sleep Rosalie came back to my room and told me her story. She was raped and beaten by her fiancé and his friends, they left her for dead. At that moment I understood their reaction to what happened to me as her words ran through my mind. I was also kind of glad someone could relate to the experience.

Closing my eyes I thought about one thing. My family are vampires and then there is Renesmee. What is she? What is Jacob?

What am I?
