Feels Like Home

"Sometimes home isn't a place...sometimes it's a person."

17 year old Harper has to completely start over when her dad and his new girlfriend decide to move to a new, much smaller town, and take her with them. She's absolutely miserable, wanting nothing more than to stay in her home with her school and her friends and everything that's familiar. But will that all change when she meets the ever so arrogant Justin Bieber, who's determined to make her like him? Hmm...maybe this move would'nt be so bad after all.

12. Chapter 12

I spent that night packing my bags. Seeing Justin had put me in a considerably better mood; I hadn’t realized how much I missed him. I threw clothes around my room, trying to find the perfect outfits and planning every second.

Once I was done with that, I knew I was too excited to go to sleep, like a little kid on Christmas Eve. I glanced up at the alarm clock for the time. 9:42 PM.

There was one more thing I needed to do before we left…

I sighed, mentally preparing myself as I came out of my bedroom. I needed to talk to my dad. I came down the hallway to find him sitting on the couch, watching TV. He glanced up at my entrance, clenching his jaw as he looked back to the TV. “Hey, Dad?” I said softly, sitting down on the love seat. “Can I talk to you?”

He muted the TV, then looked over at me with raised eyebrows. He waited wordlessly.

I cleared my throat. “Um...I wanted to apologize about earlier,” I said. “I didn’t mean it, I don’t hate this place. It’s just...it’s an adjustment. I’m really sorry.”

He sighed as he looked down at his lap. “No, I’m sorry,” he said. “You were right. We should have at least talked about it more before we moved out here, and I apologize for that. And I’m sorry about being rude earlier. I’m pretty stressed out too,” he chuckled.

I sighed with relief. “So we’re okay?” I asked hopefully. I didn’t just want his approval for our beach trip, I really wanted to be on good terms with him. I didn’t like fighting with anyone, let alone my dad.

“We’re okay,” he said with a smile. He held up one arm for me to come give him a hug; which I gladly did.

I sat down beside him as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders, then kissed the top of my head. “There’s also something else I wanted to talk to you about,” I said cautiously, leaning back a little to gauge his reaction. He just looked down at me curiously. “So...Spring Break is this coming week. And since this move has been rough on me...I was wondering if I could go somewhere? For vacation?”

“Oh, sure!” he said excitedly, totally taking me by surprise. “Where would you like to go? We can go down to Florida? We could go to Disney World, you’ve always wanted to go there! Or we--”

I cut him off once I realized he’d misunderstood me. “Dad, hold on,” I chuckled. “I’m sorry, but um...I meant me. And some friends?”

“Oh,” he said softly as he nodded. “Okay...yeah, that sounds like a great idea. Who’s going?”

“Um...Justin,” I said with a smile as I continued to watch him, still gauging his reaction. Surely that would be okay, he seemed to like Justin. His brows lowered a little, and he opened his mouth to say something. I could tell it wouldn’t be good, so I quickly interrupted. “And a few other girls from school,” I lied.

He nodded cautiously. “Okay...well what about money? Do you have enough saved up to help pay for the room?” he asked.

“Oh, definitely!” I lied, again. I didn’t need him taking this trip away from me because money was an issue. I’d spend the rest of my days paying Justin back for this trip if I needed to.

“Okay...well, then I don’t see a problem with it,” he said, hugging me close to his side.

I hugged him back tightly. “Thanks, Dad. I really appreciate it.”

I expected him to let me go, but instead he hugged me tighter as we sat there. And I didn’t really mind; for the first time in I didn’t even know how long, I just sat there, cuddled up with my dad as we watched TV.

The next morning couldn’t come fast enough; it took me forever to fall asleep due to my excitement. And when I woke up, I practically leaped out of bed. I was so ready to get out of here. I got dressed and ready in a blur. After putting on my makeup, I finished packing the last minute stuff: my makeup bag, my toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, stuff like that.

With all my stuff packed, I was ready to go. I pulled my phone off the charger, which read 7:34 AM. I wasn’t sure if Justin would be up yet since he hadn’t been to school all week, but I didn’t really care much.

I dragged my oversized suitcase out of my room and through the house. “Bye, Dad! Bye, Steph! I’m headed out,” I yelled out towards the kitchen, where I heard them giggling together like school children as they made breakfast. For once, it didn’t bother me.

“Hold up, hold up,” my dad laughed as he came around the corner with Stephanie shortly behind him. “You still have school, why are you taking your suitcase?”

“Well...Justin’s gonna give me a ride to school. And he’s gonna pick me up when I get out, and we’re gonna leave then. I just thought it’d be easier to take my stuff,” I said with a shrug.

Dad nodded slowly. “Alright, well...be careful,” he said as he gave me a hug. “Text me when you guys get there.”

“Will do,” I chuckled.

Then it was Stephanie’s turn. Normally I’d be reluctant; I never liked her much. But I was in too good of a mood. “We’ll miss you,” she said sweetly as she hugged me. “Be safe. Use a condom and always make your own drinks,” she whispered, low enough for my dad not to hear. I pulled back, shocked by her words. I couldn’t help but to smile as she shot me a wink.

“Alright,” I said, gathering my things. “I’ll talk to you guys later.”

And with that, I was gone. It was a struggle dragging my bag through the yard and into Justin’s, but I managed. I left my bag by the Range Rover and ran up the front steps, practically bouncing up and down with excitement. I quickly knocked on the door in the hopes that Justin was already up and ready to go. Naturally, he wasn’t. With a groan I made my way back around to his bedroom window.

I nervously tried to push the bedroom window open, hoping that he’d left it unlocked. I breathed a sigh of relief when the window slid up with ease. I peeked in to see that he was still asleep in bed. I climbed in carefully, trying extra hard not to fall on my ass. As soon as I was safely in, I jumped up on the bed, and kept on bouncing up and down like I was on a trampoline. “Wake up, wake up, wake up!” I sang.

He groaned loudly. “Stop it, Harp,” he warned, pulling a pillow over his head, though it just fell right off as I continued to bounce up and down.

“Not until you get up!” I yelled.

“You’ve got 3 seconds to sit the fuck down,” he threatened, his voice harsher this time. I just laughed as I kept on jumping, laughing even more when he began counting at me like I was a child. “1…..2….3.”

Suddenly my feet were pulled from beneath me, and I fell flat on the bed. I looked up to see Justin sitting up over me. “You should probably listen to me more often,” he said with a smirk, his voice still deep and thick with sleep.

“Or maybe you should just get out of bed when I tell you to,” I taunted back, sticking my tongue out at him.

He rose an eyebrow at me as he slowly leaned down towards me, his face only inches from mine. “Are you threatening me?” he asked seductively.

I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped my lips. “Maybe,” I teased back.

His smile grew as he leaned down, slightly closer. He looked down at my lips, licking his own. And then I realized where this would lead. I wanted nothing more than to kiss him too, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that.

I cleared my throat, quickly sitting up around him. “Come on,” I said cheerfully as I jumped up off the bed. “You gotta get up, I’m ready to go! It’s a long drive to Myrtle Beach, we gotta get going.”

I tried to ignore his sigh as he let his head fall into the pillow. “Yeah,” he muttered. “Alright, alright, I’m getting up.”
