9. Something Is Amiss

Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs Potts, and a majority of the other servants of the castle had become greatly concerned about their Master. Though he had tried to spend as much time as he could without getting homesick for Belle and his daughter, he had still become very withdrawn and spent a great majority of time in their bed chambers.

"Go on, Lumiere! urged Cogsworth, you're the one who discovered the door was locked."

"I'm aware of that, my ticking time bomb of a friend, but I'm most afraid to what I might discover. You go!"

"Just because we dust and serve tea all day doesn't mean we can't handle what we don't know," said two posh and frustrated voices behind them. "Out of our way, you cowards!"

Mrs Potts and Plumette shoved the boys out of their path and made their way toward the door. At first a gentle knock was attempted.

"Master? called Mrs Potts in a gentle, soothing tone. It's Mrs Potts and company. We have come to check on you to see if you might enjoy a spot of tea? A soak in the tub? An outing to the horses stables, perhaps?"

No reply was heard.

Plumette also knocked, asking the Prince if the room needed any dusting or touch up. Again, nothing.

When no one could stand the silence any longer, Lumiere told everyone to stand aside as he kicked down the door. In spite of everything, he chuckled to himself, remembering a time when Belle had also refused to come out of her bedroom and The Master had threatened to do exactly as Lumiere was doing now. Everyone had advised him not to do so, and as stubborn as she was, Belle still refused to go and dine with the Beast. If only they could go back to the time, when at least everyone had hope in their hearts, and they knew of Belle's whereabouts...

The door suddenly crashed down, and all four compadre's stared at their beloved master, lying in the bed completely still, eyes closed, oblivious to his surroundings.

Mrs Potts moved closer, feeling his forehead, hot to the touch. She leaned down and whispered,

"Master? Can you hear me?"

Suddenly The Prince jerked awake. "Belle! Rosalie! What's happened?! They're in terrible danger!"

"Ssh, Master, it's alright, everyone is safe..."

But he didn't seem to hear her. He lay back on the pillow, breathing heavily and perspiring.

"Belle... Belle... Belle..."

"He is worse than I had feared. He is, in fact, dying. His heart is broken. We do not have much time." Mrs Potts sprang into action. "Plumette, bring me some cold towels and ice. Lumiere, get everything you can find out of the medicine cabinet that might help him. Cogsworth, find Belle... immediately!"
