Secret PenPal - A michael fan fic

Written in y/n's point of view!

You have been builed since you started high school and there was only one person to blame; Michael. Everyone follows his lead and thinks he is sooo funny.
Luckily for you, you don't need anyone else but your best friend... until one day you write a song lyrics from a very unknown band on your table in the math class and someone continues the lyrics the next day. The messages on the table becomes small notes and you are bounding with this unknown penpal on levels you could never imagine. The person brights up your day and you help each other through troubles, but who might this secret pen pal be? (story is posted on tumblr as well under the name Calmimagines)

6. Chapter 6

It was not as awkward as you had feared to go out with James. Anthony was good at talking to him, but it was nearly impossible to talk together when the band was playing. You danced around to the music and James danced along and was really hyped about the whole concert. It was nice to see that he liked the music as much as you and just for second you forgot that your Pen Pal was Michael. With what you knew about James, it could be him as well so why wasn’t it?

The Monday after you went to school with a smile on your lips. You didn’t know if James was going to casually talk to you now or want you were to each other, but it was a fantastic feeling that the whole date went so well. You had almost forgotten all about Michael until you got to your math class. Out of habit you reached under the table for the note and you felt the paper hit your fingers. He had written back. You were suddenly nervous about what had happened over the weekend, if his mother was still missing.

I’m sorry I didn’t write back to you, but I had to go and pick my mom up at my grandmas. My dad was out of himself and was really glad that we found her again, but they don’t do anything else but fighting. It’s hard to hear after you mom tried to get away from it all. I almost wished I had stayed at my grandmas instead of hers. It has to be the worst weekend ever. Luckily I found something to distract myself with this weekend and the note from you today was the best thing that happened. I can’t believe I’m happier at school, than I am at home. I’m such a sad person.

You had to admit that you almost smiled when you wrote the last part. It was horrible that he had gone through such a bad time in the weekend and you felt bad thinking you had so much fun. But the fact that you could make him feel better just by writing to him was the best feeling ever. It felt like it was your purpose to make him smile and you just succeeded. It felt so good. But it was just… so wrong. But you had to write him back. You couldn’t leave him like this, even though you knew you had to slop writing him eventually.

It’s good to hear that you found your mother again. I hope it will at least give you a little peace when you know where she is. But does it matter if you stayed at your grandmas for a while? Maybe it would give your parents a wake-up call and make them stop fighting?
Anyway it’s good that you found something that could distract you for the weekend. I’m sorry I can’t do anything else but write to you here in math. But it makes me happy that it does help a little.

You sighed and stuffed the note under the table. This was not going the way you wanted. You wanted to forget him and concentrate about James instead. He just made it so damn hard! And you didn’t want to think about what kind of distraction he found in the weekend, when people like Jenna was hanging on him all the time. Bwah.

“Are you coming with me?” Kate was already walking towards your car like she was the one owning it.

“Today? Of all day we could go shopping, you choose a Monday?” You complained and entered the car.

“Who not? We got off early today, so instead of just going home and do whatever, why not use the time on something useful?” She explained and got into the passenger seat.

“So homework isn’t useful?”

“Ssssh. You know nothing!” She hissed and turned on the radio. You rolled your eyes and headed down the road towards the mall you use to shop at, whenever Kate got too much money.

You were normally not much for shopping, now that you didn’t have so much money to use for clothes because you were always saving up for merchandise, but usually when you went out with Kate she would buy you a smoothie and park you on a chair somewhere in a store and then you had to say yes or no to the clothes she came and showed you. Then when she went into the makeup stores you split up and went to the music store instead and found each other again in the end. It was like a tradition.

You were not really in the mood for the whole clothes circus that day, so you left as soon you had finished your smoothie. Kate was stilling running around finding clothes so you texted her, that you would go to the music store. It felt a little like coming home on a Friday, when you entered the music store. There was always some old 80’s rock music playing in the background so you walked around looking through the cd’s while nodding your head to the bass. You flicked through a stack of vinyl and pulled one out and admired the design on the front, when you felt someone staring at you. You looked up to see a pair of greyish coloured eyes look back at you between the shelfs. It weirded you out a little and you were about to walk away when the person walked around the shelfs and you saw it was just Michael. He smirked at you when you stopped.

“What do you want?” You asked him a little harsh.

“We are a public place. I didn’t decide to walk into you.” He said back and stuck his hands deep into the pockets of his jeans.

“Aha.” Was all you said and turned away from him. It was weird to be talking to him, now that you knew he was sad at the moment. To see him smile like that. You started to look through some other cd’s when he came up next to you again.

“Are you looking for something special?” He asked you. You looked up at him again and he just stood there. Why was he talking to you and not insulting you?

“Why do you care?”

“You have just been walking around in here for ages, so maybe you were looking for a special CD.” Your eyes twitched a little.

“Are you stalking me?”

“Don’t flatter yourself.” He said laughing a little. You huffed and started to walk away from him when he caught up with you again.

“Are you looking for a present for James?” He said and that made you stop.

“What?” You looked at him confused.

“You two are dating now, aren’t you?” He said, still with the annoying smirk on his face.

“How do you…?”

“I saw you two together at the concert Friday. You looked like you had fun, so I guess you finally got to talk to him, huh?” He said teasingly.

“That’s none of your business and will you please just go away? I don’t really want to waste my time talking to you.” You spat at him and started to walk off.

“Nice to talk to you too, tree-kisser.” He yelled after you. When you walked out of the store, Kate was on her way over to you with a couple of shopping bags hanging from her arms. You marched up to her and took her arm and started to pull her out of the mall.

“Was that Michael you were talking to? Did he say anything? Should I be kicking his ass right now?” She asked and stopped you. You looked back at Michael that was looking in your direction, but out of nowhere Jenna came almost running and attached herself to his arm. She looked a little pissed off and talked to him with a disappointed look in her face, but when he didn’t react, she looked in the same direction as him and you caught her eyes. She shot you a glare that was anything but nice and while still looking at you she stood on her toes to kiss Michael on the cheek.

“We should just go.” You said and grabbed Kates arm to make her go with you.

“I hate that stupid smile on Jenna’s face. She looks like such a bitch.” She said and you didn’t want to look back and you didn’t want to admit it, but it hurt. It hurt a lot to know that Jenna was there but he still felt the need to talk to someone else on a note under the table in math. It hurt’s because you actually wanted to be the one on his arm and be able to comfort him in real life. You shook your head at yourself, because the train of thoughts was heading in the complete wrong direction. You hated Michael and Michael hated you. That’s the way it is and should be.

You knew that you would hear from Jenna eventually. You knew she would come for you and say something mean, because she caught you with Michael, but you weren’t expecting in the way it happened.
You were sat with Kate outside the cafeteria when Jenna suddenly was leaning against your table. You looked up from your sad lunch that contained some kind of meat that the lady in the cafeteria told you were chicken.

“You stay away from Michael.” She said rather quiet so only you and Kate could hear her.

“What?” You asked and tried to sound as confused as possible.

“Quit it y/n. I know that you are writing notes to Michael in math and I want you to stop it, unless you want me to tell him that it’s you.” She gave you a cold stare that made you look back into the almost-chicken.

“Wait, you still write notes to him?” Kate said confused from the other side of the table. You said nothing and just kept looking down in your plate. Eventually Jenna stood up and snorted at you.

“I don’t need an answer. Michael hates you and as soon he knows it’s you, he will make you suffer anyway. So if you are smart, you quit your little note game.” She turned around on her heel and left you alone in horror. She knew you were writing notes? Had she read them?
