Eclipse Of The Heart

This is about a family turned into vampires by Victoria

1. Getting Away

My name is Karina Salvatore. I have one younger sister and four older brothers. My oldest brother is Cade he’s twenty-six. The second oldest Alexander but we all call him Alex, he’s twenty four. Then there’s Brandon he’s twenty-one. Next there Kol he’s older than me by about ten minutes, he’s my twin brother we are eighteen. Next is my sister Lyra she fifteen.

Our farther is very abusive it started with Cade we’re not sure why he started hitting us it got to the point to where it didn’t matter if we did anything or not. I saw what my brothers went through the older they got the more nerve they had to hit him back. I was seven the first time my farther came after me with a beer bottle. It left a gash on my arm I had to get twenty-two stiches.

He said he was teaching us a lesson but the lessons never stopped. As I got older I started taking Marshal Arts classes. I got extremely good at and mastered most at a young age. At the age of seventeen my father came after one of us again. This time it was Lyra he hit her in the head with a baseball bat. That was it something snapped in me. I don’t remember much about what happened when he came after me. The next thing in knew, Cade and the others showed up and were dragging us out the door. We went to another state in order to get Lyra the help she needed.

“What did she do?” asked Alex.

“I don’t know” said Kol “She just started screaming I can’t explain it but she just snapped and hit him in the head. The bat snapped in two that’s when you guys came in.”

“We aren’t going back we can’t” said Brandon.

“I already emptied out my bank accounts” said Cade.

“So did I” said Alex “You should do the same before we leave here. They’ll track us otherwise. Give me your phone so I can get rid of them.”

“Where are we going to go?” asked Kol.

“I set up some work in Seattle” said Alex.

“What about cloths and school?” asked Kol “Lyra’s only fifteen. Karina and I only have a month left before we turn eighteen. She’s stuck for another three years.”

“I’m working it” said Cade “The last time I was at the house I packed two weeks of cloths for everyone.”

“Lyra’s going to be made that we left her tarot cards and other stuff behind” said Brandon.

“I got all of as well” said Cade “We should have left a long time ago.”

“It’s going to be ok” said Brandon.

“He’s right” said Alex “The first thing we need to do is find a place to stay.”

“There’s nothing we can afford” said Alex “I’ve been working at this for four years. I got camping equipment in my truck. We’re going to be fine.”

“Don’t worry” said Cade turning of all the phones.

Listening to them talk was giving me a headache. Kol got up and sat next to me.

“Are you ok?” he asked.

“I’m fine the doctor said I was going to be ok” I said.

“What did you do?” asked Kol.

“I don’t know” I said “But your one to talk I saw what you did when you told him to forget. It’s like you got into his head and forced it out of him.”

“I think I did” said Kol “When you snapped and I saw him hit you I think I snapped too.”

The doctor came out of Lyra’s room.

“She’s going to be ok” he said.

“Can we take her home tonight?” asked Cade.

“That should be fine” said The Doctor “Here is the pain medication for the two of them. They should take them as needed.”

“Thank you” said Cade.

“I would rather have her stay overnight but she won’t stay” said The doctor “Just sign her release forms and you can go.”

“Thank you” said Cade “I’ll be right back.”

He left. Alex and Brandon had the same idea as Cade because they were doing the same thing for the last couple of years, getting things ready to take us away. They must have planned together at some point because Alex and Brandon went along with Cade.

As we left the hospital we stopped at several ATM’s so everyone could empty out there bank accounts. They would track our cards to the town we had just left. Leaving Nevada after leaving Utah seemed to take a long time. We made very few stops some were so we could sleep. Kol and I switched off on driving for the other as we followed Cade to Seattle Washington. When we got there Cade led the way to a rundown house.

“Here we are” he said.

“You’ve got to be kidding me” I said.

“It’s abandoned no one will look for us here” said Cade.

“It’s an abandoned house” I said.

“There’s a room for each of us” said Cade “and then another four rooms. There’s also an attic and basement. Let’s park in back.”

“Living here will be a health hazard” said Kol.

“It’s better than nothing” said Cade “We have what we need to fix it up and make it more livable. The guy I got work with already started on it. Give it a chance.”

“What about the rest of us?” asked Kol “What are we supposed to do while you guys are working?”

“Work on your own” said Cade.

“Doing what?” asked Kol.

“Do what your good at” said Cade “I know this sucks but we need to stay together. Ok let’s park in back so no one comes to investigate.”

“You guys go on in” said Brandon.

We walked into the house. It didn’t look as bad on the inside as it did outside. You could tell work had been done on the inside. Kol turned on an LED camping lamp it lit up most of the room.

“It’s kind of creepy in here” said Lyra.

“I thought you liked creepy” said Kol.

“I do it’s just more creepy then I thought it was going to be” said Lyra.

“You’re creepier then we thought” I said.

We made our way upstairs to the bedrooms. I picked out a room that had plastic covered windows. A little bit of light was coming in through the windows. Kol picked out one of the rooms next to mine and Lyra on the other side me putting me in the middle. My room was pretty big it had its own bathroom. I was sure most of the rooms did. The room had a balcony. I opened the doors and watched the others unload everything.

After twenty minutes Cade entered my room with a camping mattress, air mattress, two pillows and two sleeping bags. He set them up for me and made the bed.

“Come downstairs” said Cade.

I left my room as did Kol and Lyra there rooms were set up as well. Brandon was blowing up an air couch while Alex was blowing up a chair. A couch and chair were already blown up.

“Sit down carefully” said Cade “We don’t want to have to keep blowing them up. Ok so on Monday we start work. This weekend you guys need to set up something for you to do. It can be anything just not something illegal. We are going to keep working on the house.”

“Is there a table I can use?” asked Lyra “Something that folds up and doesn’t take up much room.

“All we have is that table over there” said Brandon.

“That will work” said Lyra “I know a great place I can tell fortunes.”

“I can beat up people” I said.

“I said Legal” said Cade.

“There’s a fighting place near where I’ll be” said Lyra.

“Kol” what are you going to do?” asked Cade.

“I don’t know” said Kol “we just got here.”

“So what are you going to be doing all week?” I asked.

“We’ll be working in construction” said Alex “We’ll each get eight hundred a week.”

“You guys are going to be making that much money and you’re making us stay here” I said.

“What the hell” said Kol “why can’t we go to a hotel room or something?”

“Because we need that money to buy new identity’s for each of us” said Cade “Hopefully in a month we’ll be able to do just that. Until then we need to stay here make this place livable. I bought it under an alias. It was cheap because it was rundown. We can live here just fine once it gets fixed up.”

“We’re going to be replacing all of the windows tomorrow” said Alex “When you get back they’ll be done no more plastic or boards.”

“What about school?” asked Lyra.

“Do it online for now” said Brandon “Do not use your email address make a new one.”

“How are we supposed to eat?” asked Kol.

“I’d rather not say because you guy’s won’t like it” said Cade.

“Soup kitchens, really” said Lyra.

“It’s what we have to do for now” said Cade.

“Low profile for now” said Alex.

“So don’t do anything that will get you into trouble” said Brandon.

“The plumbing works so it’s ok to take showers” said Cade.

They got up and started working on the house some more. All I knew was Friday was going to be a long day. I went to my room and stepped out on to the balcony. The windows on the doors were intact just very dirty. Only one window was broken but the screen was fine.

I pulled off the plastic and opened them to let in some fresh air. The carpet was very dirty. The plastic looked new so I laid it out and moved my bed onto it. As it got dark I turned on a lamp. The LED light lit up the entire room. Cade came in and told me to get some rest he told me the time.

It sucked not having a phone to look at. Cade was right they could track us using them. He had taken out the sim cards. He sold the phones before leaving Nevada. He gave us the money for each phone. I was going to buy a new phone in the morning.

I laid down, covered up, turned off the lamp and slowly drifted off to sleep.
