Your Mother's Other Daughter

A collection of rose petal poems.

9. This Way

The blitz from my camera reflects from his sunglasses, I see myself mirrored, too

somewhere amongst the faded eyes and what I thought I knew

he says he’s not sure about the future

I say we don’t have to take the worries in advance

Religion’s man-made, just faith translated into a language he understands

he takes my hand and gathers it in a prayer

I’m a “I only do this when I need it”-type of player

I don’t know how to stitch up tomorrow’s sutures

so I just tell him that it’s hard to predict

especially our futures.
