11. Heritage

Ted came home and was shocked to see Remus, but pleasantly so when he saw Callidora and met her friends. He liked having a house full of kids like that; it was a shame that he and Andromeda didn't have any more kids. He totally agreed with Andromeda's decision to help fight for custody if she needed to, he wouldn't mind having custody of Harry if Remus was denied. Remus couldn't help but grin at that and when Ted offered to take a day off of work to be at home for moral support. The night was relatively calm even if the group was nervous about what tomorrow would bring.

It seemed like morning came way too fast for the group when the alarm went off to get ready for the day. Remus slipped away from his sleeping daughter in his guest room to go wake up Hermione and Harry in the guest room across the hall.He shook the two kids awake and smiled warmly at them, getting a sleepy smile in return.

He said "It's time to get up guys. School starts soon and I thought you guys would want to spend some time together."

They nodded and Remus left the room to go back and get his daughter up, knowing that Andromeda would take care of the kids' needs while he got his own daughter ready. He went back to his guest room where Callidora was sleeping peacefully right where he left her. He sat down on the bed and shook her shoulder slightly watching as her moonlight silver eyes slowly opened.

He smiled at her as he moved a strand of white hair from her face "Good morning sweetheart."

She smiled back at him with a small yawn "Good morning daddy."

He noticed that the silver was slowly diminishing from her hair leaving behind pure white hair that was going to be even more beautiful as she continued to grow up. He pulled away from his thoughts as he focused his attention back to the present with his daughter. He smiled as she sat up and stretched before climbing into his lap and leaning against his torso.

He wrapped his arms around her and felt content fill him even as he missed his mate to join them in the early morning hugs. He loved that Callidora didn't think herself too old to cuddle with her father and enjoy spending time in his arms.

He kissed her head and whispered, "I see you slept well last night."

She nodded against his chest before suddenly looking into his amber eyes with her own silver ones full of determination.

"Daddy, are you going to tell Harry about magic today?" she asked him.

Remus nodded and answered "Him and Hermione both. I sensed magic in her as well, the first day I met her."

Callidora looked down as she softly said "I think we should tell them about dad. If they are going to know the truth about the wizarding world, I think they should know about him."

Remus looked down at her and gave her a comforting squeeze before saying "If it is alright with you sweetheart, it is alright with me. I am not going to stop you from finding and trusting best friends to stick with you until the end of school."

Callidora hugged him and whispered, "I love you, daddy."

Remus felt his heart squeeze as he answered: "I love you too sweetheart."

He hugged her tightly before letting her go to get ready for school and to talk to the other two over breakfast so that Harry knew what he was walking into and Hermione knew what to prepare for when she entered age 11. Remus took out his wand and transfigured her outfit from the previous day into a new one knowing that they wouldn't have time to go back to the flat and get ready. They walked downstairs and saw that Harry and Hermione were already seated at the kitchen table while Ted and Andromeda made breakfast.

Callidora sat with them and Remus took a seat next to her and turned his attention to the other two children in front of him. He said, "Harry, Hermione, I have something to tell you guys that I don't think you will believe but I need you to trust me."

They nodded and Remus continued "You are both magical...meaning that you Harry are a wizard and you Hermione are a witch."

The children blinked at him and Hermione asked: "How is that possible?"

Remus answered "Sometimes it just happens to children like you and sometimes you can find a magical person in your family tree. Harry, you're parents were both wizards and pretty amazing ones at that. Your mum, Lily, was the brightest witch of our age, much like Hermione is going to be and she too was also born to parents that were not magical."

Harry looked at Remus shocked as he stuttered "But...Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia....they said...that....that magic didn't exist."

Remus took out his wand and changed the salt shaker into a miniature black dog before turning it back again. The two children just stared at him in awe and shock as Remus watched their reactions intently to make sure that they weren't going into shock and that their minds were coping with this sudden announcement.

Harry said "You said that my mum was born to nonmagical parents...does that explain why Petunia didn't get magic? And what about my dad?"

Remus answered "That could explain why Petunia doesn't have magic. But sometimes magic just doesn't choose people. It can even happen to magical people...they are called squibs. Just like nonmagical people are given the title muggles. Your father, James, was a brilliant wizard. His family was a line of magic folk meaning that his blood is pure in the eyes of the wizarding world."

It was at that moment that Remus and Andromeda explained to the children the basics of the wizarding world, all about Hogwarts, and about the blood titles and feuding that occurred in the wizarding world and all the titles that each was associated with. Remus also told the children that blood supremacy was so important to some families that children were put into arranged marriages with other family members to keep the blood pure.

He then looked at Callidora and grabbed her hand knowing that the next part would be hard for her. Remus said "You see Harry...Hermione, blood supremacy is so important to some wizards that it caused a war when I was at Hogwarts. There was the Light Side, the Dark Side, and the Gray side. The Light Side was led by Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts and he formed a group called The Order of the Phoenix who partnered with Aurors, or Magical Police Man to take on the Dark Side...or Death Eaters as they were called. The Death Eaters were led by a notorious dark wizard who went about as insane and mad as a person can go...he went by the name of Lord Voldemort. He was so feared that no witch or wizard to this day will speak his name. He is called You-Know-Who or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named by almost all to this day. He led a reign of terror for years before he was stopped."

Callidora squeezed his hand as she noticed the tension in him and he gave her hand a squeeze back knowing that the truth about her real father was about to come out to her friends. Remus continued the story "At the Seven Years of Hogwarts there was a group of 4 of us who went by the name of The Marauders. It consisted of Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, Me, and James...your father Harry."

He noticed that Callidora was tearing up at the mention of her father so he put an arm around her shoulders to comfort her and felt his own heart ache at the thought of his missing mate. He finished the story "We were inseparable through out Hogwarts and even when we graduated until Lily and James went into hiding. Voldemort was after them....he wanted them to join his cause but they refused. So they chose a secret keeper to hide their location so that they were hidden from everyone including Voldemort. They were alleged to have chosen Sirius Black but unknown to almost everyone they changed it last minute to Peter Pettigrew since no one would expect the change or that they would have chosen a mousy boy like Peter. Well on October 31, 1980...Peter betrayed their location to his true master and James and Lily Potter were found and killed by Voldemort who attempted to kill Harry and failed. Ending in his body being destroyed and Harry being a scarred orphan at his Aunt and Uncle's house...Sirius Black was falsely accused in thrown in the wizarding prison Azkaban; leaving me without my soul mate and Callidora without knowing her biological father."

Callidora looked at her two friends worried about what they would say, but they didn't say anything as they got up from their seats and hugged her tightly. She hugged her two friends tightly in return and Remus was glad that Callidora had such strong friends already and he could only hope that she didn't find a Peter Pettigrew like he, James, and Sirius did.

The clock chimed and Andromeda said, "We had best get you to school children or you will be late."

Hermione and Callidora nodded and gave Harry a tight hug and wished him luck as they headed out the door and to Ted's car who offered to take them to school on his way to work. Remus hugged his daughter and gave her a kiss on her head before she left the house and whispered: "We will get our Siri back soon sweetheart, I swear."

Callidora smiled "I know daddy. I love you and will see you later."

He answered "I love you too sweetheart. Have a good day at school."

She left and Remus turned back to Harry and Andromeda who were still sitting at the table where he left them. He sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose...the upcoming battle was going to be hell and he knew that it would not be easy, but he prayed to any higher power that there was something that could be done to help him get custody of Harry.
