A Warrior's Love

Damon Salvatore is older than everyone thinks he is...his soul is also not entirely Damon's either. Reincarnation has been a researched theory numerous times, but hardly anyone ever remembers their past life....but Damon does. Maybe that is why he is the way he is...or maybe it helped him become the vampire he is today. But what happens when his past comes back to haunt him? Read and you will see

13. Nyx's Favorite Daughter

Enzo blinked "The Cherokee Maiden that Kalona chased after?"

Damon nodded and answered "Yes. I didn't want to believe it, but some part of that girl is A-ya. I just don't know how much."

Enzo was silent for a few moments before saying "I think we need to meet her. She might be an important piece to this puzzle."

Damon bit his lip as he answered softly "I'm not sure if I could handle that."

Enzo squeezed his shoulder "I'm not sure if you can put this off. Something led you here Damon, something bigger than you and I; and that something bigger led you to a piece of A-ya...a piece of your past life. You need to meet here whether you're ready or not. No one is ever ready to confront the past when faced with it, but when they do regardless...that's when they really find themselves."

Damon smiled slightly at the other vampire "Thanks Enzo, that really means a lot."

Enzo grinned back "No problem, now let's go meet A-ya. I will be right there with you every step of the way."

Damon took a breath before getting to his feet and put his usual cold and distant mask back into place. He turned to walk away with Enzo when he caught a glimpse of a statue where he was kneeling a few seconds ago. He looked up at the statue and his breath hitched as he caught the serene expression. Enzo noticed his sudden stillness and asked "Damon?"

Damon responded "That's her Enzo....that's Nyx."

Enzo came to stand behind him and looked at the statue of the goddess standing there with a tranquil and serene expression on her face with her arms raised like she was reaching for the crescent moon that hung in the sky. He turned to see the slightly pained yet fond expression on his friend's face. He smiled slightly "She looks lovely Damon. I can see where you would be close with her."

Damon nodded and with one last glance at the statue he followed Enzo back into the school.

They entered the school to find their little group exactly where they left them. Damon scanned the area quickly, but didn't see the Cherokee teenager anywhere.

He felt slightly more relaxed for the moment and tried to pretend that he didn't see Stefan's concerned gaze or Klaus' curious one. He leaned against the wall casually as his thoughts ran a mile a minute. How was it possible for A-ya to be reincarnated? She was entrapped with Kalona wasn't she? He felt his fingers twitch with the urge to run his hand through his hair in frustration. He wished that he could talk to Nyx herself and ask her these questions. If A-ya was here; does that mean Kalona was free from his entrapment?

Before he could figure it out further, the warrior from earlier stalked back into the lounge like area and bowed formally to the sword master "High Priestess Neferet will see them now."

Dragon nodded "Thank you Christophe, I will show them the way. Go back to your duties."

The short sword master stood up and led the quartet in the direction of the classrooms. Damon controlled his thoughts to keep them from wandering to the same thing over and over again. He didn't think he was ready to start that line of thinking again, he wasn't sure if he could handle the thought of Kalona be free and able to return, he wasn't sure he wanted to see the sight ever again; let alone be near the immortal.

The entered a classroom where an auburn haired woman was sitting at a desk. She stood up upon their entrance and Damon noticed that she was tall and very stunningly beautiful. Her mossy green eyes eyed them all apprehensively as her and the sword master greeted each other formally. Damon felt an uncomfortable presence in his senses and knew that the High Priestess was trying to get a read on him. He almost smirked at the frustration that passed through her eyes when she got nothing. One of the benefits of being a different kind of vampire he suspected.

He looked at her sapphire mark that was in the design of ocean waves and his lips twitched towards a frown as he tried to think about what that might mean. He was shaken out of this thoughts as the High Priestess finally spoke to them "Welcome to the Tulsa House of Night. I am the residing High Priestess here Neferet."

She extended her hand to him first and suddenly he found himself gripping her forearm in the formal hand shake as he said "Merry Meet Neferet. I am Damon Salvatore."

She eyed him from head to toe and Damon tried not to shiver uncomfortably at her leering and penetrating gaze. There was something about her that made him uncomfortable, he just couldn't put his finger on it. She thankfully shifted her attention to the other 3 leaving Damon to study her discreetly without her knowing.

As Klaus asked her about the murders of the human teenagers and the signs that it was pointing towards vamps of some kind, Damon studied the High Priestess. He suspected that this woman knew a whole lot more than what she was saying...if she wasn't involved that is. Yet he was sure that Klaus and Stefan would tell him that he was just overly cautious and paranoid. He almost snorted at the thought; it wasn't like he could shut off the warrior sense and habits that his past life had left him with, but it wasn't like they were ever going to know that.

Neferet admitted to them "I know that the community thinks that the school is responsible, but I can swear to you that none of the vampyres in this school are in any way responisble for the deaths of those 2 teenagers, they have already talked to one of my students about the accusation as she knew them. There however was no other leads that they could give us."

Damon looked at her sharply at her word choice, knowing that no one else noticed it except perhaps Enzo. She said that the House of Night was not involved, but that means that there are other vampyres out there who aren't them that are attacking teenagers and the woman in front of them knows something. He scrutinized her without her noticing and wondered what about her was bothering him so much.

She was alluring yes, but for some reason she made him uncomfortable...as well as protective of his family. He stared at her and tried to get a read on her, but was met with a cold and unfeeling wall. He blinked in shock, he had never met another vampyre who was so cold and emotionally detached; not even Katherine. Then it hit him...her aura was completely black with Darkness. It was then that he knew....she was involved in these killings and she would prove to be a formidable enemy in the disaster to come.

Then all attention was drawn to the door as a teenager knocked at the open door. Her soft voice said "Sorry, Neferet. Is this a bad time?"

Damon's breath hitched, it was the Native American girl again. Her voice sounded the same as before, just like A-ya's with the same sweetness and compassion, yet this one sounded more mature and battle warn then the innocence that the Cherokee Maiden's held.

Neferet waved off her concern "Nonsense. These men were just here about the football players. Turns out that they are a different kind of vampire and they are going to work with us to keep the school and the community safe."
Damon saw through her heartfelt speech immediately and wondered if anyone else did. He hoped so, he didn't want to have to battle her while keeping the community safe all by himself.

The girl nodded and said "I will just talk to you later then."

Neferet answered "If you insist Zoeybird. But I would like you to formally meet them; as a High Priestess in training, it is a good idea to make connections."

The young girl nodded and stepped into the room. Damon watched her curiously, she hardly looked older than 16; but she was training to be a High Priestess already? She must be really powerful or really special to Neferet to attain that honor.

Neferet gestured to the girl "Gentleman this is my pupil Zoey Redbird. She has an affinity for all 5 elements and she was extraordinarily marked special by the goddess."

Damon froze...Nyx was the only one he knew that ever had an affinity for All 5 elements, and combined with the markings that the Goddess had given her. He knew right then and there that he had just met Nyx's most special and favorite daughter...the one who would be most like her.

Zoey shook hands with all of them and froze when she turned her attention to him. She stared into his black eyes for a second before holding out her hand "Sorry, I don't mean to be rude. You just look really familiar is all. I'm Zoey."

Damon grasped her forearm and said "Merry Meet Zoey Redbird, Special and Gifted Daughter of Nyx. I am Damon Salvatore."

She answered "Merry Meet Damon. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Looking at her tattoos of rune like markings, he knew that he was going to be in for a long and one hell of a ride in the upcoming time they stayed in Tulsa. He just hoped that he made it out with his life and his soul intact...better than last time at least.
