Kira is your average 17 year old girl, she goes to school, gets good grades and her family is decent. She has a bit of an attitude and says how she feels and isn't afraid to defend herself. All of that is about to change when a new kid named Luke comes to town and changes everything. This is NOT your average story and DEFINITELY not a love story.

9. Chapter 9

The bell for lunch to ends rings and Luke stands up and walks over to his friends. I sit there just staring blankly at the big window not thinking about anything like I usually would.

"Kira," Jack shakes me, "Kira!"

I blink a few times, "Jack,"

"Let's go we got class." He says grabbing my hand and pulling me up

"That's the bell, do pages 88 and 89 for homework," I put my AP chemistry book in my backpack and put my earbuds on and walk out of the school.

"KIRA!" Luke shouts from behind me, I jump, turn around and Luke is there laughing his ass off.

"Very funny asshole," I smile

"It was wasn't it." He smiles back, "So Red Queen, what's it about?"
"How much time you got?" I laugh

"As long as you want."

My face lights up, "Well I'm not going to spoil the entire book for you so I'll just recite the back of the book."
"Recite? How many times have you read it?"
"Oh this is my first time reading the book but I read the summery everyday until I saved up enough money to buy it. So Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. There, before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own."

"You're really passionate about books huh."

"You don't know the half of it.' Alright I told you something close to me, your turn,"

"Well, I've binged an entire season of The Walking Dead in one siting,"

"WEAK" I joke

"How is that weak?! Each episode is 40min and 16 episodes in a season, that's like ten hours,"

"Three seasons, one sitting."

"Nope, when your sick it's amazing how much you can get done."

"Well you just one-up me on everything then,"

"What are these lies?"

"Let's see, fights, you're a total badass, binge sittings-"

"Ok well to be fair i don't want to one up you, those things kinda crush my chances of getting into my dream college, at this point I'll have to go to community college, or take an online course," I look down at my feet.

"What's your dream school?"

"It's a photography school in London."

"Yep," I sigh. The rest of the walk we were silent, I kicked a rock around for a while until we got to my house. "Hey thanks for walking with me," I smile, I feel like I fucked something up.

"Anytime," He smiles sweetly. I close the door and sprint up to my room before I have to engage in conversation. I tear through my backpack looking for Red Queen, I finally find it and start to read. I need to get over this, I can choose to make it better, it's not like it's impossible...just won't feel like me. Looks like I can't win. I remember what my ex friend, Arizona said to a girl once, "Stop throwing a pity party because no one is coming," So looks like this party is over.
