Its complicated

Avia Grace finds herself face to face with her enemy and soon-to-be stepbrother Luke Hemmings.

She now has to live under the same roof as the person who has tormented her for years.

But what will happen when Avia sees who Luke really is, and will he change for her?

6. Chapter 6

"Thanks for dinner, it was lovely" I smile as we all stand by the door.

"No problem sweetie, you're welcome here any time" he smiles.

I flash Luke a quick glare before me and my mum leave the house.

Mum is soon to interrogate. "So what do you think?"

I close the car door and pull on my seatbelt.

"About what?"

"About David's offer. Moving in and stuff" she says, her eyes setting deep within mine.

I shrug. "I don't really know"

A sigh follows my reply as mum grips the wheel.

"look Avia, I just don't have the money at the moment. David has been very generous in offering us a place to stay and we have been discussing the long term plans-"

I cut her off bluntly.

"So basically we're moving in forever."

Her expression and shoulders drop.

"I'm sorry Avia but this isn't a time to be selfish, it works out much better actually"

"How does it?" I say as I clench my teeth and raise my eyebrows towards her.

"It's closer to your school, you won't be home alone all the time, his house has much more space and you can get to know them more, they're nice people" she explains encouragingly.

"Sure they are" I mutter under my breath.

Mum starts the car and pulls off the driveway without saying anything.

"Lola?" I mumble through the phone as I sit lie on my patterned bedsheets, my fingers fumbling with the corner of my pillow.

"Yeeeeeesss that is me" she beams.

"I have the worst news ever" I groan.

She immediately responds

"Why what's happened?"

Long story short, I go onto tell her about the new house situation.

"Well shit, honestly I did not see that coming" she replies in a shocked tone.

"Neither did I, everything's changing really fast" i sigh.

"It will be okay, it might not be as bad as it seems" she says, trying to cheer me up.

I smile over her thoughtfulness but unfortunately it does not have much affect on me.

"I guess"

The next day:

"Cheer up Avia!!" Lola says as she nudges me with her elbow.

I groan as we take a seat on a bench outside and begin to eat our lunch.

"I know it's difficult for you but think about it, it could be a lot worse"

I mentally sigh. I don't see how it could be.

Oh great!

I see Luke, right on cue, trailing behind Calum, Blake and Mason as they roll like a thundercloud towards us.

Lola notices and we try our best to ignore them.

"That offers still open babe" Mason smirks as Calum sniggers.

Luke flashes me a quick glance but then looks down at the floor as they walk inside.

"For fucks sake" I sigh, rocking back to lean against the back of the bench.

"At least Mason isn't David's son" Lola adds.

"New seating plan!!" Mr Andrews shouts, this results in a melodic chorus of sighs and groans from the slumping teenagers dotted around the room.

I look to the board and scan over the seating plan for my name.

Avia is next to..

Are you serious. This is how things get worse.

I also notice Luke's name is one row in front of me, but luckily Mason and Blake are in the far corner.

"It must be fate" Calum smiles as he takes a seat next to me.

I don't reply, instead, I take out my books and fold my arms across my chest.

My back begins to tense up when I feel him drawing nearer to me.

He whispers "you and me are gonna have lots of fun back here."

Immediately creeped out by his gross remark, i shuffle further away and focus on the work.

After about 15 minutes Calum begins to lean closer again, his lips parted in speech.

"Can you leave me alone?!" I whisper sharply, in attempt not to disturb the class.

"Ooh sorry, didn't realise you were this feisty" he smirks, leaning back in his chair.

After what seems like forever, the bell rings and we all stand up.

Luke turns round to talk to Calum but Calum quickly interrupts him to shout across the class at Blake - who is throwing his stupid basketball around.

His jaw clenches as he plays with the straps of his backpack.

"See you tomorrow honey" Calum smiles as he walks out the door.

"Yay I can't wait" I mutter under my breath.
