39. A Birthday Party and A sick baby

Lana’s POV

I must confess my 32nd birthday was the best birthday I’ve had since I was 15. I was 16 when I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn son Isaiah and ever since then birthdays just kept getting worse. My 31st birthday was amazing but having just my husband, my daughters and my son all to myself on my 32nd birthday made my birthday magical. Today’s August 12th in six months I’m going to be a mother again but that’s beside the point. Today is Vanessa and Victoria’s 2nd birthday and guess what? My whole family is going to the party.

I finish getting dressed and walk into Allison’s room. Addie is already there wearing her favorite feather shirt and favorite rainbow tutu. She’s also wearing her OUAT converse. She’s staring at her sister sleeping and fits right into the room’s décor.

“Adelaide?”

“Mommy!”

“What are you doing?”

“Staring at Allie.”

“Staring at Allison? Well, you look like you’ve just stepped out of her room.”

I pick her up and kiss her nose.

“What does that mean?”

“You’re wearing clothing similar to the style of her room.”

“She’s sleeping, Mommy.”

“I know she is. Hop down, she has a dirty diaper that I need to change. Go get Daddy and get the twins’ presents and tell Daddy to get the car ready to go. We’re late.”

“Okay.”

Addie runs out the door and I bend over Allison’s crib’s railing. She’s sleeping. She’s also wearing a dirty rainbow onesie. I cringe as I change her extra-stinky diaper. I turn around to get her a new rainbow onesie and she starts crying and coughing. I turn around and find puke everywhere. I change her outfit, clean her off and set her in her carrier. I clean up the mess and turn around to get her medicine. I put her medicine in her pacifier and watch her drink it all up. I pick her up and carry her to the banister I peer over and call…

“SEAN?”
He comes and peers up at me. He sees Allie and sighs.

“Is she sick?”

“I don’t know I gave her the medicine. She seems to be doing fine.”

“Should we go to the party?”
“Addie would kill us if we didn’t go. I think all Allie needs is sleep.”

“Okay,…sleep and isolation it is. Addie and the presents are all packed up.”

I carry Allison to her room and secure her in her carrier. I carry her carrier downstairs and out to the car. Sean buckles in Addie and I secure Allie’s carrier into the carrier holder which is secured by a seatbelt. Sean drives and I ride in the passenger seat. When we get to Bex’s house she greets me with open arms. I laugh as I watch Lizzie in her daddy’s arms and the twins both greet me with smiles.

“Aunt Lana.”

“Aunt Lana.”

“Hello Vanessa, hello Victoria.”

I kneel and let both girls give me hugs before popping back up to get Allie. Addie runs to Bex and motions for Bex to pick her up. I laugh at the sight of my daughter in my sister’s arms. I’ll never forget the first time Bex told Addie she was pregnant and I’ll never forget when Bex told Addie she was pregnant again. Addie was scared the first time but last week when she was told Aunt Bex was having another baby she was okay with that. In the past year, I can’t be more thankful for how my baby has turned out to be. She’s so mature now even if she’s only four. She’s changed since I brought her home.

I walk into Bex’s mansion and add four more presents to the mound of presents for the twins. In a few days, Jennifer will be hosting a party at her house for Liam O’Donoghue and Elizabeth Kane. For now, I focus my attention on my two little nieces who look just like they’re momma. Addie runs off to find her cousins and I go set Allie up in the room that Bex has reserved for babies. Finally, there are only two newborns needing attention. I set Allie up in a temporary cradle and at the same time, Ginny comes in to set Jocelyn up.

“Ginny I think it would be wise if Josie was on the other side of the room. This morning Allie was a little sickie.”

“Thanks for warning me. Why do you call her Josie?”

“Because I’m good with nicknames.”

“Enlighten me.”

“Josh is Josh, Marcus is Marc, Sean is Sean, Colin is Colin or Pirate, Jennifer is Jen, you are Ginny and Rebecca is Bex. The kids, on the other hand, are Ollie, Hugo, Josie, Addie, Allie, mine is Sammy, Toria or Tori, Nessa, Lizzie, Alex, Liam, and Katie.”

“Go Lana with the nicknames. Shall we go join the party?”

“Yes, we shall. Are you okay being the only chick drinking? Are you okay, after the miscarriage?”

“I’m fine. Thanks for asking. It’s been hard coping but I’ll get over it.”

“Ginny, I’m here for you.”

“Thank you, Lana.”

She wraps her arms around me and then we check on our babies one last time before joining the party. Josh hands out beer to the men and Bex offers Ginny a glass of wine. Bex stands up and makes a speech. Her two little girls join her and hug her legs. Lizzie smiles at her mommy from her highchair. Addie sits on my lap.

“Today these little ones turn two. Since they came along my life has been wonderful. I don’t know what I would do without them. They’re my babies and I love them so much. I would like to propose a toast to motherhood and to fatherhood.”

We toast and Bex goes into the kitchen to bring out the cake. She sets two individual cakes in front of her daughters and we sing Happy Birthday.

“Happy Birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday dear Nessa and Toria

Happy birthday to you.”

I smile as I watch my two nieces dig into their birthday cake. It’s simple a beautiful sight watching them enjoy their birthday. After cake, I help Bex clean the twins up and then we open presents. After presents though I can hear Allison crying in the other room. I find her red, crying and hot to the touch. I put her in her carrier and rush out of the room.

“I’m sorry Bex, Sean, Addie. We need to get Allison to the hospital. She’s burning up and screaming.”

“We can hear. Come on let’s go.”
