11. Darkness Ten: Twelve Mid Night

Hearing the sound of the midnight clock, my eyes automatically opened. My room was dimly lit up by the full blue moon outside my open window and I could see the silhouettes of twigs outside swaying caused by the wind.

Its very dark and reassuring for me.

I now sat up, craving for the need of drink when I felt my throat drying so I now stood and made my way towards the door going out of my room. I didn't bother putting on my night robe when I walked out because it was already a warm evening, my night dress was enough to suffice the early temperature too. Barefoot I walked down stairs not to disturbed anyone until I was finally able to make it to the kitchen where the drink I was craving for was inside the fridge in front of me. Still no lights lit up.

More than anything else, what I hate the most is being in the light when I'm alone. It felt dangerous and open. It makes me feel like someone will hurt me if I stayed marked by the illuminating light and one shot I'm dead. All possibilities if me getting hurt came from the trace of light and it's not surprising why. Because first, my family was murdered in the broad daylight. Second, when I was kidnapped by some hooligans and tried to escape, I was caught hiding because of a flashlight(Which is so annoying). Third, the people at school, randomly passing in front of me, I can see their faces, their expressions, the way they see me and feared me. Light had always been my enemy, and when I'm stuck in the darkness, I never felt more than alive and safe from any harm.

I stopped in front of the fridge and pulled it open, illuminating a light that allowed me to easily find the pitcher of water, grabbing it and immediately closed it as I faced the counter and grabbed a glass to pour some water for me to drink.

"Miss Lewis?" A soft sheepish call almost made me jumped surprise, nearly making me dropped the glass I have in my hand and close from spilling the water in my mouth.

I forced my throat to swallow the water and deliberately turned towards the silhouette who owns the voice. "E-El?" I acknowledge after recognizing his voice.

"What are you doing here?" He asked again, seemingly sleepy still. "Did something happened?" he continued.

"Oh, no. Nothing. I... I just went out to take a drink--" the room lit up and my eyes felt a sudden flash that made me involuntarily close my eyes and stopped from speaking. But when my eyes finally adjusted, I found the sleepy appearance of that man in front of me, standing near the kitchen's exit with a messy hair.

"Have you had your drink?" he asked again.

I gave a nod before returning the pitcher in the fridge and  putting my glass of water on the zinc. "Do you need something?" I asked back to at least engage him to a small talk than me nodding or just saying yes or no.

"No." he replied, scratched his neck and eyes trying to keep itself open. It was a new side of him that I've never seen before. He's usually the man who would show up decent, and now he looked half asleep. "Aren't you feeling cold?" he stepped forward, starting to make his way towards me while I waited until he's foot away before deciding for my reply.

"I'm used to it. Anyway, I think it should be time we head back to our rooms. I'm still feeling a bit daze." I said. But he wasn't talking. He was just staring in my face with his eyes half opened but still looked conscious to me. And to my surprise, he removed that one foot space between up, fully occupying the personal space that we're supposed to be maintaining. And when I stepped back, my back hit the table counter that almost made it impossible for me to create a space. Again he occupied the last space I could provide after ending up cornered in the counter. "Do you need something?" I asked again.

He leaned his body forward, making me instinctively move my back down just to avoid being too much close to him. He placed both of his hand on the table cornering me in between his arms with that unchanging stare he was showing me. "Miss Lewis..." he whispered huskily. It wasn't a whisper through my ear but I felt my body shivered from his sudden call. "You look outrageous today." he said.

Shocked, I stared at him in disbelief. My nightdress was short and thin which made me realize that anyone who'd looked at me would most likely see my undergarments. From what he said, I felt myself consciously blushing. "S-sorry. I didn't mean to get out like this... i-it's just... I'm..." I stuttered. most likely embarrassed by the situation and my lack of skill over handling a conversation that I wasn't expecting. "I was used alone... so I didn't concluded this to... to happen." I reasoned. Honestly it was the truth. I'm used walking around with just my undergarments on my unit but didn't thought about this man actually finding me in this kind of appearance.

"What would you do if my brother was the one who found you?" He asked.

"I'll punch him... obviously." I replied.

"Then he would've been more thrilled if you did." He said pressing his body more into mine that I have no choice but to let him helplessly. "Once this happen again, I think I wouldn't be strong enough to hold myself. You are a beautiful girl miss Lewis and seeing you right now made it felt more intense. Please keep that in mind." he leaned forward even more and I remained in place when his lips touched my forehead as he departed and gave me my personal space back.

"I'm sorry." I apologized again.

He didn't responded again, rather, he held my pulse and pulled me lightly towards the stairs going up. "I hope to marry you soon, miss Lewis." he said out of the blue. When we were quiet for a while as I regained my shock from what he said that made him continued. "But while you're not in your right age and time, I want to keep that innocence from being touched by anyone, especially Ed." A sudden irritated tone came out of his tone as he continued to make his way towards my room.

When we're facing my door, he let my hand go and made way for me. "Have a good sleep miss Lewis, I'll see you tomorrow." he said and began to walk away, entering his own room and so I did the same.
