Love In The Darkness

Can you actually fall in love with a mafia heir that will soon marry you if you find out his darkest secret in your darkest hour?

***Ashreigh was the only one from the Leighton family who managed to survive the major assassination in their manor. Her parents' car burned into ashes with them, she was showered with a shot, and the mansion wrecked down like a fallen glass of water that killed a lot of servants.

Her tragedy gave out a new beginning. A new life that will soon start to be written in her book of life.

1. Once upon a time

I once had everything I never asked to have. A family that busied themselves with raising money and dignified reputation. A mansion that has always been a lonely space and servants that fears our family. Luxurious and fancy materials, resorts and rest houses.

It has been a tiring life. The pressure to endure and feel stressed about, because of the expectations I must overpower. But little did I know that it was just the beginning of everything.

Just like a prologue in the books I usually read. The beginning where my usual life will end. Where my life will begin the adjustment of the changes that instantly wrote down to my chapters of life.

And once upon a time I found myself loving darkness. Because light had caused me fright...

The car had been on its usual speed that morning on its way to school. The cars lined up, making its way out of the lonely mansion where I lived and those three cars was one of the examples that made it lonely.

The first car lies my father, the second car that follows contains my mother and the third car that's on the last of line filled me. But I am already used to that situation for my entire life, we never rode the same car at once. Even in gatherings of the same destination, we waste gas and added up into traffic because my parents were all about personal spaces. And I as a daughter never had the will to protest what I want at least, because apparently, I already have everyTHING I want. But there I always felt that I lack something. I lack the things I need them to give me.

I need them as my family. I wanted to feel complete at least for an hour. Even in breakfast, there was no sense of eating together when the table is actually fifteen meters long and the three of us are completely far away. Calling it family meal is totally absurd. Almost everything that my parents called 'family' was the most nonsensical joke I've heard for almost my lifetime of living this nasty world.

It was a word they made me understand, but was also a word they never showed me.

I sighed over thinking about the nonsense and turned my head towards the window to watch the car making its way out to our front yard. But suddenly, the car made a sudden halt. I was completely off guard and my head flew forward to hit the front seat.

"What's going on?" I asked enduring the bump on my head as I turned in front of me.

Outomatically my brain registered the fear and panic. I watched as my mother's car flipped around for how many circles before it landed up side down on the fountain side while my father's car slammed on the concrete wall of the front gate.

As these events happened, my eyes turned towards the van over the front gate. A white vehicle where men started coming out with a gun.

My driver tried to start the engine as his instinct of survival busted in, but our car doesn't want to cooperate at all. The cars where both my parents rode had cooked up in its own flame as those strangers surrounded the car I was in. I watched as together they pointed the gun towards us and without a second thought, they've began to pull the trigger. A deafening release of bullet as I felt a pierce in my chest spreaded out a pain to my entire body, making me lie on the seat and lucky to have avoided the gunshots.

After the deafening bang, I was finally listening to a music. A lullabye that lulled me to forget the pain and listen to the harmony it offered.

As I felt it getting harder to breath, I could sense that the music had gotten closer, and from the broken window I saw a man holding a piece of music box where the music had come from.

It was like a humming angel if only I'm not looking to an old man in formal suit giving me an eye while he hold his music box. Time continued and my sight felt blurry time after time, giving me a dizzy feeling as my eyes felt the heaviness of my eyelids with my tears gave out the final sadness as my eyes closed and the darkness offered me a welcoming embrace...
