Peculiar Poetry

Poetry with and without reason and rhyme.
Strange is what I strive for.
Expect lyrics and limericks, free verse and format.
Be prepared for bubbly and boiled, terrifying and horrifying.
Keep an eye out for those that provoke your thoughts, and some that bear no thought at all.
Many written for class, and others without much of it.
Feel free. There are no boundaries. Just think.
Consider, Ponder, Wonder, Imagine.
Argue, Oppose, Debate, Defend.
Perhaps you will be offended.
That's good.
Think about that.
Learn more of what you think.
How you think.
Take what you can from what you hate.
I don't seek to preach.
I only speak my mind.
A mind most peculiar.

34. "That Bastard I Call My Brain"

(Less of a poem, more of a monologue)

I see you have an hour.

A full hour to yourself.

No school or work or responsibilities.

This is quite rare.

So be sure not to waste it, okay?

Hey, hey, what're you doing?

What's that? A sketchbook?

That's the point in that?

Are you about to create a masterpiece?

Are you going to submit any of that into a gallery?

No. Didn't think so.

Practice you say? Practice?!

What kind of artist needs to practice art?

If you can't just do it, then forget it.

Forget the sketchbook. Let's find something el—

No no! What?

Your piano, huh?

Why would you do that?

Oh, I see.

You're going to record yourself and put it on the internet, right?

No?

Oh! So you're writing a piece for a contest, right?

...no.

So what's the pathetic excuse, eh?

For fun

Uh, no.

There's no more fun with a piano, here me?

You're an adult now.

You play for concerts.

You do recitals.

You go to college for this stuff and teach kids.

You make money off of this and hope to God to get famous!

Is that your plan?!

No. Of course not.

Moving on—

No! Hell no!

Get off that laptop!

What? Oh, you're writing?

Oh that's nice!

Go ahead, you write that novel.

.....

...But be sure to finish it before that contest ends.

But don't rush it or else it'll be garbage.

And remember to make all of these characters so relatable that they feel like old friends.

But hurry! The longer to take the less people will be interested.

But what about that other story you started? You've been neglecting that too. You should work on that one as well.

But don't forget about this one though. Whatever you do stay focused. Stay focu—

What? You don't want to write anymore?

Why?!

Not in the right headspace?

Getting distracted?

Wow. It's just excuse after excuse with you, isn't it?

Just write it! It's not that hard!

...no?

Ugh. You're hopeless—

Get away from that television!

I don't care if you have a show you wanted to start!

This is going to help you—

Stay out of the kitchen!

You're running out of free time!

There's no time to eat!

No, don't tidy the house!

You can do that anytime!

No, don't start crafting!

You won't finish it in time!

No, don't write poetry!

That takes too long!

No, don't read that book!

You won't even get a chapter in!

No, don't watch YouTube!

That's not productive at all!

No, don—

Damn.

Time's up.

Man.

You can't even enjoy yourself.

You wasted so much time.

How did you even do that?

What is wrong with you?
