Beyond the War

September 20th, 1939. A small girl, and a humungous war to face. Kelilah and her younger sister Tamra has to escape the Natzis. One day Tamra is ill and Kelilah has to become a completely different person to save her dying sister. Through her journey, she meets a boy who might change her life...

6. Is there hope?

I swallowed. My heart slowly went back to the regular pace of a clock ticking on a rainy day. My solution had worked. I turned around to face my biggest fear.

"Well, we have some beautiful lettuce to keep a beautiful grin on your face and your muscles as strong as steel sir." I answered quickly.

"We'll take two off them for our supper tonight. Stay away from the Jews!" He yelled from the distance, what seemed like miles away. I clutched the coin in my hand, thinking it might be enough to help Tamra. Though I knew I couldn't go back. Not now. I needed to find help. I knew it was wrong to leave Tamra by herself but I needed to find money. I needed to find medicine.

Later that day, when the sun hung low and the sky turned the colors of pastels smeared on a canvas, a little girl walked down the streets of a city of ruins. She didn't really know where to go, or what to look for, but she knew that her heart would guide her towards a life of hope.
