Silver Pendants

A story about 3 girls who end up in the strangest of situations

12. Chloe's POV (Chapter 12)

Since I have the day off, I don't need to haul myself to my dreadful job at the diner. Instead, when the bell rings, I head out the door and take my usual seat near the middle of the bus, which I take home. From there, I'd head to the hut where I'll meet Ash. With a rumble, the old yellow bus wheezes as it's engine is forced on, and we pull out of the parking. I pull my chemistry binder out of my bag and begin working on my homework. It comes somewhat easily to me, and shouldn't take long.

After 5 minutes or so, I realize something breathing over my shoulder. I twist to face behind me only to be met with the startled face of some rat named Eli.

"Something I can do for you?" I sneer, eyes narrowed

"Well," He begins. "I mean you could keep letting me copy your homework."

"Ah yes, it would be my pleasure," I say, my words laced with sarcasm.

He smirks and turns back around. As much as I'd like to say I'm one of those badass chicks who everyone is intimidated by, that is surely not the case. I'm pretty sure the only thing I have going for me is an abundance of snarky remarks, along with a limited supply of intelligence. Lots of times I've tried to be someone I'm not. Make more friends maybe? That didn't go so well, considering no matter what I did to my hair, or who I tried to talk to, I felt very out of place. Fortunately, I don't think I'd put myself into the weird kids' category either. In the end, I finally decided that I was completely out of shits to give. So now I'm just... me. I don't know what I want to do with my life, or where I want to go to college. I should probably figure those things out. Who knows? Maybe I'll have an epiphany and suddenly realize my purpose in the world. I hiiiiiiiighly doubt that, but maybe.

The bus comes to a screeching halt. I fumble with my bag and throw it over my shoulder. I walk off the bus and make a dash for the woods.

I arrive at the hut and sure enough, Ash is standing out front aside her skateboard. Don't be awkward. Don't get social anxiety. BE NORMAL.

"You beat me," I start, as relaxed as I can manage, and gesture to the board. "How fast can you get here on that thing?"

"Ehh, depends on how fast you go. I've been doing this for a while." She turns to the hurt. "Shall we?"

I laugh. "We shall," and with that, we head inside.

I honestly have no idea how long we talked. Or how much we talked about. Turns out we both have pretty sucky home lives. Her mom sounded awful, and just hearing about it was painful. I told her of my money woes, and she was actually pretty normal about it, which I appreciated.

We had just cracked open a liter of Pepsi when I abruptly shush her.

"What?!" Ash whisper-yells.

That's when I hear it. Very quiet foot steps, right outside the door. My heart skips a beat when I hear something else.

The click of a pocket knife.

Hi guys! I'm SO sorry it's been so long since I've updated. I guess you could say I had a pretty bad case of writer's block. I really hope you like this chapter. I put a lot into this chapter, because (personality-wise), Chloe is heavily based off myself. That's it for now!
