Fairly Local

"The world around us is burning, but we're so cold. It's the few, the proud, and the emotional."
A lot of people may think that after my brother graduated high school, all of the issues would be resolved. Ha, like I wish. This is still high school. There have been rumors speculating around now about my class, and most of them are about me. I've cheated on my boyfriend with the most popular guy in our grade, I've had sex with a girl, I've done drugs, I give blowjobs for free, et cetera. Well none of that is true. I've never had sex with a girl. I drink but I don't do drugs. And the only person I give blowjobs to is Ian.
Wait I didn't confirm that the cheating on Ian one isn't true? Well, that's a long story...
(Second book in Problems Series)

10. chapter nine

Ash stayed with me until the party ended, which was at like two in the morning. At that point, people were still going at it that he just decided to leave. For the first time in a while, I didn’t get drunk at this party because I feared I would get drugged again. I just spent the evening drinking a water pretending it was vodka and apple juice pretending it was some sort of beer. With people really drunk at this point, they didn’t bother to judge my drinks.

When I woke up, noticing that I did not have a hangover, it felt nice for the first time in a while. I get out of Jess’ bed that she let me borrow and head downstairs to get food. Upon my arrival, I see Jess, Seth, and Ryan cleaning up the house. They were going at a slow pace so I’m assuming they’re hungover.

“Morning.” I say almost sounding perky as I grab a trash bag from where the trash bags are held.

“Nic, calm down. Your peppyness is too much.” Seth groans. “Why are you so peppy anyways? You’re normally hungover whenever we are cleaning up.”

Shit, it’s that noticeable.

“I...” I’m not going to tell anyone that I was drugged. I don’t even know who did it still. “I got sick in the middle of the party so I spent the rest of the night in Jess’s room.” I mean, when in doubt got to stress the truth.

Ryan’s only reaction was a nod and an “Okay. I hope that you’re feeling better right now because we got to clean before Jess’s parents get back.” Wait what? “Yeah, her mom left a message and said that her parents’ trip got cut short so we got to get our asses moving!”

With that, I spring into grease lightning mode and start cleaning. I throw away the ransom cups lying around along with any random condom wrappers, straighten out the pillows on the sofas and also push them back to their original places.

But while I was straightening out the pillows, I hear Seth go, “Hey Jess! Why did you invite drug dealers to the party?!”

Wait, drug dealers? It was just a party of our high school peers.

“Seth I didn’t invite drug—oh shit that’s GHB.”

GHB...liquid ecstasy...

“Seth, where did you find that?” I ask with a sudden worry walking over.

Seth pointed over by the counter where empty cans of beer were, which was where the mysterious looking tiny bottle of GHB was. “But who would bring GHB to a high school party?”

“GHB is liquid ecstasy. It’s seen as the drug at clubs and rave parties and is linked to sexual assaults.” No, Jess’s dad is not a cop. She just wants to major in criminal justice with a special in social work.

“I got drugged at the party.” I ultimately admit. “I didn’t get sick. Jess found me on the couch breathing but unresponsive.”

The four of us were silent for a couple of minutes until Ryan suggested that we do some cop work to figure out whose fingerprints were on there. That immediately got shut down by Jess saying that the only lab we know of is the chemistry lab in school and if we even get caught with drugs at school, we’re at a very high chance of suspension.

That sparked a debate that would transfer over to text once we finished cleaning at the house looked and smelled like a normal house and doesn’t reek of alcohol.

In the end, knowing that Jess is taking classes at the community college and has access to the medical lab, we decided to contact her teacher and go there.

The weekend went by quick and the next thing I know, I was meeting Jess on Monday at Sierra College to do some fingerprint work.
