The Mystics

Life wasn’t so easy for me. Especially, when everything you had or loved...was gone...forever. Oh sure, my life was just fine before, but what if the family you loved so dearly, and so much care for, your loving younger brother that always looked up to you and worried about you every time you’d leave; what if it was all gone, in an instant. Nothing’s the same anymore. Everything has changed...for good. Now that life’s taken its turn. There’s no turning back now. Love sickens me, or so I thought. The last time I opened up my heart and let my guard down, love left me in the shadows. I don’t feel anything anymore. All that’s in my heart now, is anger and hatred.

4. Dragon Drop

In the morning, I wake up still in Shadow’s grasp. Trying not to wake him, I slowly slide out of his arms and head for a small pond, just ahead of the treehouse. When I get there, the water felt warm enough to clean up in, so I take off my clothes and jump in. Making sure no one was around, I go underwater and wash my face, then carefully, I get out of the water and put my clothes back on. Then I head back to the treehouse.

“Where have you been?” Shad looks at me curiously.

“I was just cleaning up. When did you wake up?”

“When you slipped away from my grasp.”

I blush slightly, “Why were you even holding me in the first place?”

“U-um, I-I figured you needed extra comfort from what happened last night.” He even starts to blush and looks away from my gaze.

“Oh...thanks for that. It really did help.”

“You’re welcome. So do we have everything ready to go?”

“I believe so. Come on, let’s begin our journey to Dragon Drop.”

“Coming.” Shadow follows behind me and helps get everything ready.

Soon enough, we start heading to Dragon Drop. When we reach the ruins of the old Dragon Drop, I feel this aura that gives me a vision. It hit me so fast, that I fell back.

“Woah, are you okay?” He catches me and pushes me back up.

“Ya, I-I just had a flashback of the fire here...Wait a minute!” As I walk into the ruins, the aura grows stronger.

“What’s wrong?”

“Someone else is here.”

“What do you mean?”

“Their magic aura, it’s very strong here, but it feels like this person is injured horribly.”

“Do you want to go look for this person?”

“Please.” Before he even moves, I head for my old house that was somewhat still standing. On my way there, I find burnt clothing, burnt bodies, dried up blood, and hidden skeletons. When Shadow and I reach my old house, I stop in my tracks. A body lays there, covered in bloody cuts and is hardly breathing. I couldn’t believe my eyes, is that who I think it is?

“Phee, who is that?”

“I-It’s Gene, m-my younger brother.” My eyes fill with water as I stare at his lifeless body.

“He’s still breathing, Phee. Should we take him with us and hopefully heal him?”

“Can we Shadow?” I look at him eagerly.

“Yes. We can. And Dragon Drop is just up ahead. Let’s go.” Shad grabs him and carries Gene the rest of the way to Dragon Drop. When we get there, I use some of my coins to get us a well sized cottage.

“Ya, now put Gene in one of the bedrooms. I will grab my potions and the cloths we packed. See if you can get him to regain consciousness.”

“I’m on it.” He takes my brother upstairs to one of the two bedrooms. I hurry and grab my potions and the cloths from my satchel. After I find all the supplies, I go find the boys in the second bedroom.

“Do you have it?”

“Yes. Is he awake?”

“Barely. Hurry before-” I drop to my knees as tears fill my eyes.

“I’m so sorry, Phoenix.” Shadow pulls me into a tight hug as the tears start to flow.

“It’s all my fault, this is all my fault. I-I don’t deserve to live.” I pull away from his grasp and run outside with my dagger. Little did I know, Shad followed me out onto the ledge.

“Don’t do it, please. It’s not your fault. There’s no way you could’ve known this all would happen. Please stay with me.”

“Why should I? No one cares about me anymore. No one loves me.”

“I do. I always have.” He pulls me into a hug, but kisses me passionately this time.

“What? You’re just saying that, Shad.”

“No I’m not. You mean a lot to me. I care about you so much. Please stay with me.”

“I-I just don’t want to hurt again. I always get deceived when it comes to love. Everything of mine was destroyed the last time I fell in love.”

“We’ve known each other, since we were kids. I fell in love with you, the moment you arrived. Why would I want to ruin that ? And lose you?”

“I don’t know, Shadow. It’ll take some time to get used to it.”

“Don’t worry, you will. Just take it easy.”

“I will.”

“Now, who are we attacking first?”
