Knock, knock. Caitlin was sitting on my lap and I was reading her a copy of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. She slid off knowingly and I answered the door. "Meeting downstairs in 10 minutes ladies." One of the hall monitors Chelsea smiled and shut the door behind her. I fell on my back on the bed and Caitlin laid on top of me giggling.

I'm nervous. Usually a meeting means somebody quit or someone is definitely being adopted. There were 3 chairs empty as the children assembled around the table. I yawned exhausted as Caitlin climbed into my lap. She kissed me on the cheek and began playing with my thumbs. I whispered a joke to her and she began to giggle. It was so cute. "Alright everyone." Claudia was taking a seat in one of the chairs. The other 2 managers Sue and Lindsay sat down on both sides of her. I tapped Caitlin lightly on the shoulder and told her to listen to Claudia. "I have an announcement to make." Claudia said.

"I have an announcement to make." I glanced around at the kids, smiles on their faces but with such delicate backgrounds. A jittery feeling was flowing inside me. I thought excitement must've been all over my face but nobody seemed to notice. "Today is a pop up adoption day. In 2 hours visitors will begin flowing in." I grinned and chatter began to spread throughout the room. "Lunch in 20 minutes. Dismissed." I shuffled with my papers and exited the room leaving the kids to chat for a little while.

Caitlin laid her head against my chest as I swooped her into my arms. I took her out the doors into the playing yard. We sat together on the swings and a tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm gonna miss woo Bwynn whatever happens." Caitlin whimpered her tears falling onto my tee shirt. Would Caitlin get adopted and I wouldn't? Would it be the other way around? Would we be left here? Tears rolled down my face too. "I love you Cait" I hugged her tightly and she played with my braid. I sat there quietly not a sound in the world. I felt Caitlin's soft breath on my neck. She had fallen asleep. So adorable. Then the lunch bell rang startling Caitlin. She fell to the ground and nervously I picked her up and rushed her to my bedroom. I have a first aid kit in my drawer and I raced to pull it out. I applied rubbing alcohol to her cut as she screamed in upset. I hugged her and placed 3 band aids on her bleeding leg. She smiled, her face blotchy. We went downstairs and Claudia handed us both grilled cheese sandwiches and a cup of water. "Enjoy." Claudia grinned and rushed off to help another little boy who was crying.

After lunch, Sue took Caitlin to get changed so she looked good for the visitors. I brushed my teeth and changed my top since Caitlin's tears had stained my top. I pulled on a mint sweater and plopped down on my bed. "Brynn are you in there? Come downstairs, it's getting packed already I'm hers."
