Okay going back to the night when I left you Ben tell me in your own words what happened. I came home and my mother started calling me a filthy pig. She’d been through my drawers and found the condoms that I had bought. She began smacking me around the head then picked up the poker from the fire which was hot and she burned me on my leg with it.

“When my father came in she told him and he gave me a beating too with his leather belt. “ He said that I had sinned against God as Catholics weren’t allowed to use condoms. “I told him it was also a sin to sodomise his own son.’

My mother just stood there and never said a word. I went to bed and later that night and my father came in and raped me again. Later I got up and looked through the keyhole of my father’s room. My father had tied my mother to the bed and he was whipping her. Then he put his penis into my mother’s arse; she was crying out as he was being rough with her he was slapping her across the face and calling her a slut. “She was crying for him to stop just like I was. “ So I waited until they were both asleep. I didn’t really know what I was doing Martha; only that I wanted the abuse to stop.’ “I thought by hitting them with the axe they could not hurt me anymore.

“Did you mean to kill your parents Ben?’

“No I did not.’

“That will do for now Ben.’

“What happens now?’

“Well we will take our findings to the high court and see if they will reopen the case.’

In light of what you have just told me I think that we have a good chance.’

Professor Drain stopped the tape then replaced the lid which clipped on and it just looked like a black brief case. They knocked on the door and the officer let them out then the other guard led Ben back to his cell.

“What did you think Martha; was it premeditated murder?’ or a miscarriage of justice.’

“Given the amount of abuse that Ben has suffered not only at the hands of his father but his mother too I think he had a mental breakdown; his body just shut down.’

“He has also been abused by inmates and the guards of Medomsley nick but he never set out to kill any of them.’ “Now was that because he didn’t have the means at his disposal?’

“I’ll tell you what I think shall I Professor, I think he is still being abused in here and possibly by the guards as well. Did you see how that guard stared at him with hate in his eyes when I asked him if he’d been abused in here?’

The guard let them out of the gate then locked it straight after.

Martha got into the passenger side of the car as the professor placed the recorder into the boot. “Can you send me a copy of that tape Professor?

“Certainly I’ll have a copy on your desk in the morning.

Coming through the piers at Tynemouth had never given Tom as much pleasure.

“I love this place do you know that said Tom to the other two men as they sorted the crabs and lobsters out into size and weight.

“It’s going to be great to get out tomorrow and do some fishing.’ “The bigger cod should still be around hopefully Skipper.’

“We need to make a few good runs lads so I have enough money for my wedding; there’ll be no registry offices for my bride.’

Did you here that Chris; a registry office is not good enough for him and his lass.’

“I mean he is marrying a herring girl is he not?’
