The Last Battle

No one has done a Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children Fanfiction so I'm the first. It's the last battle between Jacob Portman and his enemy the hollows and wights.

6. Chapter 5

We were walking through the forest. Now familiar to us all.
Millard was walking right beside me, or rather skipping. “I can’t believe it!”
“Beelieve you mean.” Hugh corrected. He’s been making stupid bee puns ever since he found out about them. It’s painful.
“Yes, yes. But I can’t beelieve we’re going to get him!”
“I’m sorry…him?” Claire asked.
“Yes him!” Millard took Claire’s hand hurriedly. “Him as the Radi Bekhmanatov!”
“Sorry, I still don’t know him.”
Of course she didn’t know him. She hadn’t been with us. She was ill and had to stay back at the menagerie with Fiona. Now it all makes sense.
Finally we came to a familiar clearing with cheerful caravans and the sound of sweet music filling the air.
“Syndrigasti! We meet again.” A cheerful Bekhir came up to us.
Bronwyn was the most excited of us all to see him. “Bekhir!” she ran up to him and gave him one of her bone crushing hugs. “We missed you so much.”
“I don’t mean to interrupt. But where is your son.” Millard said impatiently.
Bekhir let out a laugh. “He may be invisible but not completely quiet. He still plays in the band.”
“Oh yes.” Millard chuckled. “Silly me.” And with that he ran off.
Emma gave me a glare. Go with him. It seemed to say.
I followed the bobbing jacket all through the camp until we came upon the ever so familiar trumpet floating in the air.
Millard and Radi embraced.
“I thought you’d never come back!” Radi said as he pulled back.
Millard chuckled. “I would never leave you here.”
A laughing Hugh and a crimson faced Claire approached us. “One invisi-boy is enough. Two is just perfect.” Hugh laughed.
Claire kicked him in the shin and he winced. “Shut up.” She said through clenched teeth.
“Claire! Language.” I piped in. I wouldn’t miss this for the world.
She proceeded to blush. That just made Hugh laugh even more. “Raire is just priceless!”
He nodded and smirked. “Radi and Claire sittin’ in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.”
I covered my mouth to stop a laugh from escaping.
Radi had gone bright red. As an invisible boy his skin and flesh are invisible but not his blood. He was basically just two patches of pinkish-red floating in the air. Hugh was right, I thought. Raire is priceless.
Claire may have been flustered but she wasn’t brainless.
“Hugh and Fiona sittin’ in a tree. S-N-O-G-G-I-N-G.” she fired back.
Millard snorted. “That’s one letter too many.”
Hugh’s expression instantly dulled. His giddy mood gone. The whole Fiona had left in him widened. The scars from his past had come back to haunt him. We were all effected by Fiona’s death but none more than Hugh.
He turned his back, not wanting to talk.
“Honestly I don’t see what you saw in that girl.” Millard said, “There was nothing different about her to any other.”
“Yeah,” Claire agreed, “and she wasn’t the best looking girl either…”
Hugh clenched and unclenched his fists. “What did you just say?”
“I said she wasn’t-” I covered Claire’s mouth before she got herself into big trouble. The worst kind of fight is between siblings, of blood or mind.
 “She said she wasn’t-”
“Save your breath, Portman. I know what she said.” He cut me off.
Millard put a hand on his shoulder. “C’mon. I’ll take you back to the others.”
Hugh nodded. And they both walked off.
Radi stood beside me now. “Who is that?” he means Claire.
“Oh, that’s Claire. Claire, this is Radi.”
“I know!” she said, then she blushed, embarrassed. “I mean, pleasure to meet you.”
“And what can you do?” he asked.
“I have a back mouth, see?” she bent over and pulled her hair forward to reveal her back mouth.
I heard Radi mutter “fascinating” under his breath.
I chuckled.
“It’s fascinating as you are the beauty…with a beast.”  He helped Claire fix her hair. But he lingered longer. I wonder.
