42. Chapter Forty Two

Natalia's POV

Back to reality and everyday life. Back to school. To the world. No more sitting in the hospital and no more fighting with Jason's father about being in Tommy's life. Just plain and simple college with my friends and no stress. Or, no added stress. Med school itself is enough stress.

I've been back to school for about two days now, and I haven't stopped getting the looks most of the sluts get in the school. It's as if I tried to sleep with the professor to get a lead. Which has happened before, may I add.

"Tyler, what's going on?" I asked as Tyler handed me my morning coffee.

"Everyone found out about your baby, about you and your medical problems, and about your boyfriend. You know, I didn't think Jason could be so popular in college, but he's widely known around here."

"He has college friends. College parties before we met. But, um, how did they find out exactly?" I asked, scratching my head.

"Oh, I have no clue. I haven't been out of my dorm all week. There's this sickness going around, heard it's airborne, not sure, but I don't know what's going on around here. It's like all the students are trying to ruin everyone's life. Like, people spread the word about me and my... problem in a matter of a day, and I don't even know how they even found out. And now, people are spreading Tommy around like a wildfire."

"Someone must've told people. I only told two people here and that's you and..."

"Ronnie," I whispered. "This is exactly what I didn't want to happen, Tyler. I didn't want people to find out because this would happen. Only you and Ronnie and my professors know about Tommy. And my professors only because they need to know if there's an emergency at home, I have to leave. Ronnie had to tell people."

"You think? She doesn't seem to have the... spread secrets vibe."

"Oh, trust me. I live with her, I've seen her angry before. She told the whole campus about her ex-lover having some kind of disease and how she didn't sleep with him ever because she would get it. Now the whole school knows and calls him Syph boy."

"Oh, my god, I love him. He's actually really funny. I'm gonna stop talking. So, what are you gonna do?"

"Confront her like a normal person. I might have been someone to run away from problems before, but not anymore. Guess that's what happens when I date a popular guy,"

"Popular, please." I rolled my eyes and walked away from Tyler, making him run after me trying to catch up.

Jason's POV

"Hear what happened at NYU!?" Matt asked, barging into my room.

"Dude, there's a thing called knocking, you should try it sometime."

"No, seriously. There's some super shit going around NYU. There's a bunch of rumors and sicknesses and drugs. It's crazy, man. I mean, the police are involved and everything."

"What rumor?"

"Um, something about a kid, not sure. Kate only told me it's about..."

"About what, Matt?"

"She's outside, man. Oh, shit!" He ran from my door, which caught my attention. I flipped from my bed and ran down the stairs to the front living room.

"Space! Give her space guys, cmon!"

"Somebody get Jason!"

"Call someone!"

"Move, move out of my way! Jesus, what does someone have to do to get some privacy here?" I kneeled down on my knees in front of Talia and watched as her chest moved up and down rapidly. He eyes moved from every person in the room, then to me, then to everyone.

"Anxiety," I whispered, taking my hoodie off. I wrapped Talia in my jacket and took her hand in mine, trying to calm her. The doctor says when this happens, make sure to keep her stable and calm, the more stressed she gets, the worse the anxiety will get. Warmth, too. Keep her warm, not cool. Sweat it out rather than the cool air hit her.

"Talia, can you hear me?" I asked, moving her head towards me. Her eyes were all over the place. I pulled her closer to my chest, so her head was right against my heart. "Talia, baby, listen to my heartbeat and try to follow the pattern."

"Matt, go into my room, in the top drawer of my dresser is a bag, can you grab that and get the Advil bottle?"

"Advil is gonna work with this?"

"Jesus christ, just get the damn bag!" I swear this kid is so smart but so stupid sometimes. I ask him to do something, he does it, but he does it wrong. Is that how Talia feels about me?

Matt came running down with the bag flinging in his hand. He threw the bag to me, hitting me in the head. "Sorry," I nodded and grabbed the Advil bottle from the tan bag. Thank God Talia thought about this. Oh wait, it was my idea. See, wouldn't have to worry about this if we moved.

"Baby, I have your pills," I whispered, opening her mouth, I put the pill in her mouth and watched as she swallowed it dry, calming down in seconds after taking it. The best part about the pills... they work almost immediately, but they have to if they didn't... well, we would have a problem there.

Talia looked up at me with her eyes. Sadness, anger, and hurt all followed her eyes. In an instant, the rumors going on campus.... they're about her. About whatever she has to hide from people. And people found out the worst way.

Natalia's POV

I sat on Jason's bed with a glass of water in one hand and my phone in the other, contemplating on calling Tyler telling him I'm okay. If it wasn't for Tyler, I would be at school still having an anxiety attack. Tyler, the best person he is, made me come to Jason even though I didn't want to. He put me in the car and drove me thirty minutes to Columbia Uni to make sure I was okay.

"What the hell happened, T?" Jason asked, sitting on the other side of the bed.

"The whole campus knows about Tommy, about me, you, my medical problems, my anxiety. It's like freakin' high school all over again. People whispering and talking about me behind my back. Professors making sure I'm 'okay'."

"Is it time to make the decision about moving? Schools in Pennsylvania are great with med students and criminal justice as well as football players. The house is thirty minutes from the college and we would go to the same school."

"People are talking about me, Jase. In college. Girls are now coming out with stories about being with you are now coming out and it's just..."

"Alright, that's it, we're moving. I don't care what you say about it. We need to get away from here, T. Look at what it's doing to you."

"Summer. Move in the summer. Get our transfer papers and we'll move, alright?"

"I don't care, just something to get you away from me. I may be your boyfriend, but I'm not gonna sit here and watch you lose your mind because of people at college. This will not be high school, you hear me?"
