My name is Pitch, and I am a Miscreant...

1. Prologue: Meeting the Miscreants

Third person POV:

A young girl with black hair and storm grey eyes sprinted through the barrier between Platform's 9 and 10 to get to Platform 9 and 3/4, anxious to catch the train to Hogwarts on time.

"Slow down, honey, you are supposed to walk with grace!" her father shouted, but she pretended not to hear. It wasn't soon before... crash! The girl crashed into another girl, this one with red hair and emerald green eyes.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there," the raven-haired girl apologised.

"Oh, it's okay," the red-head answered with a smile. "My name is Lily Evans, what's yours?"

"Obsidian Pitch, but please just call me Pitch," the first girl replied. Just then, the train whistle sounded, so Pitch hugged her parents goodbye and boarded the train. She soon caught up with Lily, who was with a boy wearing black clothes, had black eyes, greasy black hair and a hooked nose.

"Hi, I'm Pitch," she said happily, holding out her hand.

"Severus Snape," the boy mumbled in reply, shaking her outstretched hand. They moved around, looking for an empty compartment, before finding one with a plump girl with wispy, light brown hair and watery blue eyes inside.

"Um, sorry, but do you mind if we sit here?" Lily asked. The girl nodded and the three took their seats before introducing themselves.

"Rita Charmsbrooke," the girl replied. The train jolted, before moving, slowly pulling out of the station, when the compartment doors opened with some force.

"Oh, sorry!" the culprit, a girl with sandy brownish-blonde hair and hazel eyes with gold flecks hidden behind thin wire glasses exclaimed. "I was looking for an empty compartment."

“It's fine, you can sit with us," Pitch answered, and the girl sat down next to Rita.

"My name is Artemis Wolff," she said, everyone else introduced themselves, and soon, they were all friends, except Severus, who escaped from the compartment after Artemis had arrived.

   ~the Sorting~

The four girls stood together in the grand hall, waiting to have their house determined. A stern witch named Professor McGonagall explained the Sorting ceremony about having to try on a tattered hat, which had burst into song a few minutes before, and was now calling out names. Lily was trying to ignore a boy with messy black hair and brown eyes hidden behind a pair of glasses, who was staring at her intently. After a boy named Sirius Black was Sorted into Gryffindor, one of the four girls was next.

"Charmsbrooke, Rita," Professor McGonagall called, and the plump girl stumbled up, sat on a stool, and had the Sorting hat placed on her head. After 15 minutes, the hat shouted, "Gryffindor!" and Rita hurriedly took off the hat before bolting down to the table decked in red and gold.

"Evans, Lily," the stern professor called again. Somewhere in the crowd, Severus perked up as Lily walked confidently to get her House. Two minutes, just two, and Lily was sitting next to Rita in Gryffindor. A few others got Sorted, and after"" Pettigrew, Peter," it was Pitch's turn.

"Pitch, Obsidian," the witch cried, and Pitch walked up to the Sorting hat as if it was something that happened every day. Now, Pitch was from a long line of pure-blooded Slytherins, so it came as a huge surprise when...

She nearly jumped with joy, and started walking towards the table before remembering she was still wearing the hat. Pitch had to hurry back and give the hat to "Potter, James," the messy-haired boy who was staring at Lily. Finally, Artemis Wolff was Sorted into Gryffindor, and she sat with her friends. The headmaster, an old wizard named Professor Dumbledore stood up and made a speech, but the girls were so deep in their conversation, they only caught the last few words.

"-and now, before we fill our minds, let us fill our stomachs!" Professor Dumbledore exclaimed happily, and with a gasp from the first-years, the tables filled with food. The girls knew right then, they were going to enjoy Hogwarts, side by side as best friends.
