53. Waterpark Adventures

*The Next Day*

“This place is so cool,” I smile and adjust my sunglasses.

The waterpark is bigger than I thought it would be and seems to have a ton of fun rides and things to do.

“I do my research, lovely,” Ashton kisses my cheek and leads the way farther into the park. “I rented us out a little, cabana, I guess you could call it. A place where we can leave our stuff and chill when we want. It’s right by the wave pool and close to all the places to eat.”

“Sounds perfect,” Alice skips a bit. “Are we going to stay together or split up?”

“I think you three can explore the park,” my mother says. “I’d like to just relax at the, cabana?” She giggles, “That’s such a cute word, but, I’m old. I think it would be fine for me to just relax there.”

“You’re not old, mom,” I sigh. “But if you’d feel better just chilling, that’s fine. Alice, Ashton, and I will have a fun time exploring this sweet park.”

“Sweet,” Alice laughs. “This is going to be so much fun.”

“I think it will be,” Ashton smiles. “There’s so much to do and I’m with some amazing people.”

“You’re being too sweet, Ashton. You don’t have to be so sweet,” I sigh. “You really don’t.”

“I want to be,” Ashton whispers to me and kisses the top of my ear.

After a few minutes, we make it to our cabana. It has a mini fridge full of drinks, and three lounge chairs with multiple beach towels.

“It’s so cute,” I smile as I sit down on a lounge chair. “I should’ve brought a book to read while I rested or something. We are coming here when we visit again. I love it.”

Time flies as Alice, Ashton, and I explore the park. Enjoying every ride, we decide to go on.

“Man, half the park has been conquered,” I smile as I take another bite of my chicken sandwich. My back is pressed up against Ashton’s chest as we share a lounge chair.

“Half the park already?” My mother asks as she shoves a few fries in her mouth.

“Yeah, and all the rides have been awesome so far,” Alice says. “We plan on going on the lazy river last. Would you like to join us when the time comes?”

          “Sure,” my mother smiles.

“Good,” Ashton says. “You need to get in a pool at some point during this day.”

My mother laughs, “I’ve actually thought about going into the wave pool, but I worried you guys would come back and wonder where I’ve gone.”

“We would think you went off chasing some guy,” Alice says.

          “Alice,” I glare at her.

My mother hasn’t dated since her and my father dated years ago. When he died, I always thought she’d find someone. She hasn’t, at least not yet. Now I’m afraid she’ll never find someone because she’ll think she is cheating on my father.

“I’m surprised a lady like you doesn’t have guys swarming to you,” Ashton says.

“That’s sweet, Ashton,” my mother smiles. “But I’m too old for dating, and I don’t want to be married again. I’m fine. Maybe I’ll get a couple dogs when Alice moves out.”

“Why not get some while I’m still at home?” Alice asks. “I’d love to have a dog.”

“Because I don’t think I can house you and a dog,” my mom sighs.

          “Um, mom,” I speak up.

          “Yes dear?”

“Ashton and I were actually going to give you some money when we left. Like, to pay for a lot of things. To pay you back for things, too. And I want you to take the money. You can’t deny it. You deserve to quit one of your jobs and not worry about bills and food and other things. You’ve given me so much, and now I’m giving back.”

“And you don’t even think about paying us back,” Ashton adds. “This is a gift from us to you.”

My mother’s eyes well up with tears, “Thank you. Thank you two so much.”

“It’s our pleasure mom,” I smile.

“I guess that still means I’m your favorite person in the world,” Ashton chuckles.

“Oh, don’t suck up,” I chuckle with him.

“I love all three of you so much,” my mother sniffles. “You don’t understand how much that means to me.”

“So, does that mean we are getting a dog?” Alice pipes up.

Waterparks are so fun, I wish I went to them more often. :D
