The Civil War of Annesia

The kingdom, once a beautiful and prosperous land, has fallen. Thousands of years of unrelenting war has shattered it into three new lands, and their history is all but forgotten. The now ruined capitol of the kingdom of old has been found, and myth claims that it holds a gemstone so powerful, one kingdom could destroy the others, and rise up to become the most powerful in existence.

13. The Wall

The wall loomed, a knotted mass of thorny vines, woven into a nearly impenetrable living structure. It reached high above them, into the canopy.
"Looks like it's time for me to go. Good luck! I'll stay in contact, and I'll tell you when I reach headquarters," Brockelle promised.

"Man, I'm gonna miss knowing you've got my back."
   "Same here."
"See you on the other side."
She waved, before disappearing into the woods behind him.
He started trudging up to the wall, the heavy Hierdelician armor weighing him down. How do these nutcases move in this stuff?
He closed his eyes, directing every shred of his energy toward sensing the size of the wall, and whatever lay on the other side of it. The wall was nearly ten feet thick. It extended twenty feet below the ground, and fifty feet into the sky. Directly in front of him and to his right, there stretched an ocean of corn, neatly arranged into rows and columns, spaced two feet apart. To his left, past another acre of corn, was a building, packed with people.
There it is! He took out one of the bugged knives he had brought with him, and used his magic to fly it over the wall. Trying to remember where the complex had been, he steered it  in that direction. When he was satisfied that it was close enough to get a glimpse of the structure, he let it drop.
Then, he switched to the video feed of the bug crystal, and saw the checkpoint. He switched back to making it float, and moved it closer to his target. Again, he checked it. It was a very basic design: militaristic, simple. It was a rectangular building, that reached into the wall.
The checkpoint was somewhat redundant, and mostly served as an assurance that would-be intruders had one more layer of defenses to pass through, as the gate was what decided whether or not a person was allowed in. However, Saeflod assumed, it also housed the crystal that powered the sections of wall adjacent to it. To find out, though, he would need to come closer to it in person.
He relaxed his senses. He opened his eyes, returning to his own surroundings. He decided to call Brockelle.
"Green 2p7-qt, come in green 2p7-qt, this is red 7b9-az."
   "Copy that."
   "What's your status?"
"I'm halfway to the border, and have confirmed an extraction there with green division. Your status?"
"Remote scouting is complete, proceeding with short range surveillance."
   "Green out."
   "Red out."

He travelled to about half of the distance that had seperated him from the gate before, and used his...there should be a name for that sense...Cognividetion? to look for...aha! He found a heavily guarded mass of vines, much like the wall, surrounding what he knew would be the emerald. Now, how do I get to it? I'm gonna have to wait until Brockelle can help me with it.
