,,You’re disaster,” something once says. ,,Something wrong. Aren’t you?”
And she has no idea how to answer that, is only rendered speechless as she slowly steps around, trail leaving behind something alike to naught.
,,Why won’t you answer?”, it pushes and she steps back, eyes blank and mouth empty. She’s forgotten how to form words.
Then a laugh. An utterly despicable thing that makes her gut curl and chest tightens. She gasps.
,,But how could I expect that of you. You are, after all-“
,,So wrong.”

23. Day Twenty-Two

One day, she meets a second one.
A chiming bell announces her arrival, and it doesn’t take her many steps before the well-known smell of leather hits her, of turned pages and freshly packed books, a thing that makes her shoulders unconsciously relax.
Her fingers run across the backs of the books as her eyes intently searches for the title she’s hunting, her lips soundlessly forming the words between huffed breaths.
However, after running through most of the genre’s placement, she must regrettably admit that the book is nowhere to be found.
,,Do you need help?”
Startled she flinches, a squeak leaving her as she turns around, chest quickly gulping in left breaths. The boy before her has a surprised frown upon their face, an apologizing smile making its way forward.
,,Sorry – didn’t mean to startle you,” he excuses, running a nervous hand through his hair. Somehow, that eases her – enough for her to send him a shy smile, as she grabs the hem of her sleeves to pull them down.
,,Not your fault – I was just really into.. er, searching for a book, I guess,” she bites her lip, trying her best not to roll her eyes at her own awkwardness.
,,Which one?”, he asks.
,,You probably don’t know it,”
He gives her a smirk. ,,Try me.”
,,The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater,” she retorts, a helpless smile unfolding upon her lips.
,,Ohh good one – unfortunately for you, I know it. Know it very well, even.”
She can’t help but gape at him, stopping short to stare at him.
,,You know it?”, she asks, not able to contain her excitement.
,,Yeah, I do – I pre-ordered The Raven Boys even before it was out, and instantly fell in love when I started reading it.”
,,I really thought I was the only person in the world that knew about their existence.”
,,Oh no, we’re out there – hidden in places where we still get high requests about the Twillight series.”
,,Oh, poor you.”
He laughs, waving it off with a smile.
,,Nah, it’s fine. Anyway, we do have the book – in our stock out in the back. I could grab you one..?”
She claps together her hands, mouth a big smile as she nods eagerly. She awaits him at the counter, having to bite her lip when she sees him arriving with the book.
,,As a fellow fan of this series, I must request your number so we can fangirl about it as we make our way through it.”
She chews upon her bottom lip again, their face suddenly flashing up in their mind.
,,I- I already have a-“
,,Oh, me too. He still brings me flowers, despite it being two years ago we started dating,” he says, yet another smirk making its way forward.
,,Yeah. So, your number?”
She laughs.
,,You don’t even know my name!”
,,What’s your name then?”
She smiles, a sad, silent thing.
,,I don’t quite know yet.”
I don’t quite know either.
,,Oh- Sorry about that-“
,,Don’t worry about it. This is just when you smile and give me your name,” she assures him, a soft smile upon his lips.
,,Cody. My name’s Cody.”
