Breaking the chain

Heather Reid a sixteen year old girl is found collapsed in Howdon - she has run away from her home on West Percy road North Shields, because she is pregnant. She is taken to Willington Quay Maternity hospital where upon she gives birth to a baby Girl that she names Dawn because the dawn was breaking when she was giving birth. After complications set in Heather dies of Toxaemia and her father will not bring up a bastard child. Dawn is adopted by two university lecturers - follow her story as her real father seeks her out and a court battle ensues. this is a tragic story that will have you reading until the end.

Gordon was about to stump up for the taxi but Ralph said that it was taken care of.

“Thanks’ for a splendid evening and fantastic company.’

“I will see you in the morning Tracey.

Five and a half hours to be precise.’

“I can make it nine o’clock if you like.’

“No way, I will be ready no fear.’

“Goodnight all.’

Gordon turned the key in the lock then went inside. He took off his jacket and carried it up stairs and changed into his pyjamas and slid into bed he had pleasant thoughts as he nodded off.’


The club on the New York Estate was full of people that he didn’t know and they All looked at him as he went to the bar and ordered a bottle of Brown Ale.’

He gave the girl behind the bar five pounds and waited for his change.’

He was approached by another man who was standing further down the bar.

Hello I’m Alan Young I’m on the committee here are you a member of our club just that I don’t recognise you.’

“No Alan, I’m not I’ve just recently bought a house near here.’

“I see, so would you be interested in joining our club then?

Brian nearly said Aye but then said yes, that would be something I might be interested in.

“Well its twelve shillings to join and a half crown a year.’

“Do you want my money now?’

“Only if you have enough; we can wait.’

 “I will pay you now if you don’t mind.’

“Good hold on a minute and I will take your details.’

Alan young went to the committee room at the back of the club then came back shortly after with a blue coloured form. “If you would like to fill that in we will have your membership card ready the next time that you come in.

Brian quickly filled in the form and handed it to Alan who shook his hand after he’d hand him his joining fee.

“Let me buy you a pint Mr Reid, I think that you will be a great asset to this club; have you ever thought about being a committee member.’

In all the years as a member of Chirton Club he’d never been asked to join the committee and here he was on his first night in this club and a stranger was buying him a pint and asking him to join their committee.

I would be honoured to join your committee Alan.’

“Good Brian, you don’t mind me calling you Brian do you?’

“Not at all Alan and thank you so much for the beer it is so kind of you.’

If you become a committee man you will get five free pints every time you come in and do a duty.’

I will introduce you to the other committee members this evening and you will be seconded onto the committee tonight and that means that you will be entitled to five free pints straight away.’

“Then it will be my turn to stand you a pint Alan.’

 “I think we are going to be good friends you and I.’

“Have you been on this committee long then Alan?’

“Fourteen years now; I am the club secretary.’
