He put a hand on his chin before saying "Interesting". He looked at me a few more seconds then he stomped off hastily around the corner and out of sight.

7. Chapter 6

Everett's POV

I wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans, took a deep breath, and walked down the steps into the basement. The sight that I saw was pathetic. There were people hanging up on the walls and bound by chains. People were in front of them with weapons like whips, brass knuckles, and other tools for torture. The prisoners moans and screams of pain pierced my ears and I smirked.
Quickly weaving through the people I made my way to the office hidden away in the back.
Once I reached the door I quickly made my way inside. The room was very dark. The walls  were painted a dark brown color. The furniture and curtains midnight black. There were two reclining arm chairs in the middle of the room in front of a grand fireplace. One occupied in which my leader was sitting. I sat in the remaining chair and waited for him to begin.
"Hello Everett I assume you know why I have asked you here" said Carlos. He was tall around 6 foot 3 with dark hair. His eyes are such a dark brown they're almost black. His skin was the color of caramel and he had perfectly groomed facial hair.
"No sir I have no clue why I'm here" I replied honestly. His eyes narrowed and he sighed leaning back in his chair.
"Well some of our informants told me that Anthony Cortell has moved closer into our territory. Also he has enrolled his only daughter at your high school. I have a sneaking suspicion he's planning something big." He told me.
"What do you think that he's planning sir?" I ask him anxiously.
"I'm almost certain it has something to do with Willow Hemlock" I immediately tense at her name and clench my fists. He notices and rolls his eyes and sighs.
"Yes I know you feelings towards the girl. And I know what's been going on. But you're going to need to move on from that. It's history. It happened 10 years ago you need to get over it. I know you have hard feelings towards her father but that's no excuse for what you've been doing. She is very precious to us." What!?
"But sir-" I try to protest but he quickly cuts me off not allowing anymore words to come out.
"Enough I've told you what's going to happen. Don't argue with me. I'm a very busy man and I don't have time to deal with your temper tantrums." I take a few moments to get my anger under control. Finally I calm down and he nods with approval.
"Excuse me sir but I don't understand what this has to do with me besides the obvious"
"I was just about to get there. Now that Anthony has enrolled his daughter Ivana there I assume she will play a big part in his plan. So I want you to keep tabs on her, watch her." He hands me a picture of Ivana and I study it closely. He catches attention again and continues. "Also I need you to protect Willow. Don't let her be alone other than her home. We have to keep her as safe as possible. We will have guards surrounding her house and the school at all times but other than that it's your job"
"But why do I have to be the one that protects her? There are plenty other people at school that could do the job just as well." He grunts in annoyance.
"Karma." He then turns in his chair and stares into the fireplace intently. I take that as my cue to leave.
As I drove home I decide to take the long way home to think over everything. I have a million questions spiraling in my head. Why are they all of a sudden wanting to protect her? What's so precious about her that she needs protection 24/7? And why is Anthony Cortell using his daughter  for the job? I'm going to get to the bottom of this.

Willow's POV

It's been a few days since the incident and I haven't heard from Everett since. He hasn't been looking for me before and after school like everyday. I can't say that I'm not grateful for the break but I'm highly suspicious. What is he planning? He's never missed one school day of his torture and all of a sudden he misses three on a row. I know that he's at school too because he's in my 4th block.
I decided to push the thoughts away and enjoy the freedom from him. Since school was over I had decided to wait outside because I hadn't seen Brinley inside at her locker. This was the biggest mistake of the day. As I wait in front of the school a sleek black car pulls up beside me. The tinted window closest to me rolls down and I see Everett's face from the inside. Unconsciously I step backwards out of fear. This is it. He's finally going  through with his big plan of torture. But he doesn't do anything. He simply says.
"Get in" I shake my head in fear and step further away from the car. He grunts with annoyance and speaks again on a more stern voice. "Willow get in the car before I do it myself, and you're going to regret not listening to me." At his words my eyes widen and I scurry to the car, open the door, and slide on.
The ride to the destination was awkward to say the least. It was silent because apparently he had never heard of a radio or he just enjoyed my discomfort. Every time I would look away he kept sneaking glances at me with a furrowed brow. Especially at my bruises on my arms that were now slightly faded.
The further that we got away from the school the more nervous that I got. Where is he taking me? Is he gonna kill me? Rape me? Who knows what he's really capable of?
My uneasiness faded as I took note of the familiar houses that bordered us as we drove. We were close to my house. My thoughts were then confused. Is he taking me home?
Soon enough we pulled up to the front of my house. I grabbed my bag and dashed out of the car as quickly as possible not wanting to spend another moment in his presence. Just thinking about him have me mini heart attacks. I stopped when I heard a cough.
"Your welcome for the ride home Willow" he said to me patronizing. As if I needed lessons in etiquette.
    "Thank you" I said politely.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning" he told me before staring up his car once more.
"I have a car and I can drive myself" I said rather defiantly. He is really getting on my nerves but I couldn't stop the surge of fear from talking back to him that occurred after that sentence.
"I know" he says before speeding of down the street and out of sight.
