Chapter 3

Everyone was starring at Riku and Selene as the both barged into the classroom, severely late to class. All the classmates gawked at the two students panting in the front of the classroom. Even Cross gave them an unusual suspicious look. The students looked on. Some confused, some suspicious and some of the boys gave Riku and envious look. Selene was one of the top voted most attractive girls, right up there with Embry and a Goddess that had been rarely coming to class. Riku could never remember her name. But either way, he wasn’t too fond of the looks he was receiving.

“Please excuse us!” Selene begged as it must have taken all her remaining strength to say those words. Understandable since they both ran nonstop all the way here. Although, Riku had lagged behind quite a bit. “Alright. Miss Nightingale. It is perfectly understandable for Riku to be late, but you?” Cross said. Riku gave him a cold scowl. “That’s just not fair!” Riku shouted, agitated. He had already been irritated by the looks his classmates were giving him. He huffed and stomped over to his seat. Embry, who sat behind him next to the large window, looked up to him with a suspicious look. “Say anything, and you get zero from my lunch for the next month!” Riku turned around in his chair and gave her a cold stare in return.

In Riku’s convenience, the lunch bell rang not thirty minutes after he had gotten to school. He sighed to himself and pulled out his boxed lunch from his bag. Seth and Embry approached him and pulled up the nearest chairs. “Eating in the class room today?” Seth asked while he was eating a turkey sandwich he bought from the convenient store. The nasty tasting ones that were in that gross plastic wrap. “Yeah. I can’t really stand the smell of the cafeteria.” Riku replied as he opened his lunch box and flicked Embry’s hand who tried to steal a nibble. “Oh, Come on! I hadn’t said anything!” She huffed and stomped her foot, and set her hands on her hips. “No, but you were thinking.” Riku stuck out his tongue, enjoying being a smartass. Embry hissed and cracked her knuckles but Riku stuck out his tongue again and made fart noises with it. Seth chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his head as he watched Embry and Riku’s little scuffle. It was then that a third figure approached.

“Excuse me. Riku, was it?” It was Selene. Why did she go over there? What could she possibly want? In fact, she had never really talked to anyone, except a few girls who sat around her, even then, it was to gossip, barrow supplies, or to just talk to someone. Riku tilted his head in confusion. “As thanks for pulling me out of the street, perhaps you could come over for dinner?” Riku’s cheeks went warm. Perhaps, was this a date?! No way! Riku shook his head. He could never get that lucky. But even so, he had never been over to a girl’s house before. Sure, he knew Embry since the sixth grade, but he even didn’t go into her house. Riku took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

“Um, sure. That sounds ok.” Riku swallowed, feeling his throat become dry. He bit his lip, rethinking his words. “Ok”? “Ok”? “It seems ok”?! That could have made him sound so uninterested, even though he was quite ecstatic to be going into a girl’s home. But either way, a smile spread across Selene’s face as she softly giggled. “Alright! I will prepare!” She turned to walk away, that grin still on her face. But, she suddenly tripped over someone’s back pack and swiftly stood up patting herself off and held her skirt down and strode out the door.

“She’s an odd ball alright.” Embry muttered to Riku and Seth. “Got that right.” Seth nodded, agreeing. “She defiantly does seem like a weirdo huh?” Riku chuckled lightly. Seth used his elbow to nudge Riku in his side. “But seriously, man! You got invited to a girl’s house! And it’s one of the top classroom hotties!” Seth forcefully put his arm around Riku’s neck. He squeezed him as he pulled him back into a noogie. “I don’t see why that should matter!” Riku grabbed Seth’s arm and lifted it over his head and pushed it away from him. Seth grinned mischievously and raised his shoulders, chuckling softly. Riku kept his glare on Seth. He huffed and stood up and stretched. “So you’re going, Riku?” Embry raised her eyebrows, resting her chin in her palm, her elbow on her desk. “Hm. Well, she was nice enough to ask. I don’t want to be rude.” Riku pulled his arm across his chest to stretch.

He sat back down and began to enjoy his delicious home cooked lunch. Yet, he found it odd that this girl had asked him over to his house. Riku and Embry are really good friends, yet he hasn’t even been over to her house. But that’s mostly because her mom seems to hate boys. And sounds kind of scary. On the outside he seemed calmer about the situation. But on the inside, he was panicking about it. Was he supposed to wear some sort of fancy attire? Or treat her like some mistress? What would they do? What would her parents say? So many questions that seemed to batter in Riku’s head gave him a headache. He sighed and rubbed his forehead with his palm and shook his head. He never did do this much thinking. So when he did it usually gave him a headache and he felt lost.

“You aren’t nervous, are you?” Embry now rested her arm on Riku’s head as he was now sitting back in his chair. “Well, of course I am. I’ve never been in a girl’s house.” Riku shrugged, a slight grin cracking on his face. Embry stared at his smile. She eyed him and then removed her arm from his head and shrugged, crossing her arms. Riku watched her, noticing the obvious, and suddenly random, mood swing. He said nothing of it as she would just deny it. But, maybe it was just his imagination, But. Could it be that she was…jealous? Impossible.
