While The World is Going Crazy

He had gotten weird fanmail before but these were serious threats...

17. Chapter Seventeen

Toni watched as Amanda was led away from the courtroom with her hands cuffed in front of her - she couldn’t take her eyes off of her. She still couldn’t understand what had happened but she’d finally come to the realisation that she never would, some things were beyond comprehension. As she stared as the heavy wooden door closed behind Amanda and the two court officials who had escorted her out, she felt an arm around her shoulders.

“You alright?” Mikey asked gently.

Toni barely heard the voice as she stood with her eyes still transfixed on the door.

“Babe?” Mikey nudged her gently, trying to snap her out of her own little world.

“Huh?” Toni asked as she turned to look at it.

“Everything alright?” Mikey asked again.

Toni shrugged, “Not really.”

She sighed as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her towards him, “It’s all alright now babe, Amanda ’s gonna get the help that she needs, we’re safe and in time this will all hopefully be a distant memory.”

Toni nodded and leant her head against his shoulder, she was relieved that Amanda hadn’t been sentenced to a prison term, her anger at her former friend had died over the past few days, to be replaced with pity. She knew that she never wanted to see or hear about Amanda again but she wanted to know that she was safe, that someone she’d thought the world off was going to be taken care of.

“Can we just get out of here?” Toni smiled weakly at Mikey as she began to walk towards the exit, “The sooner I get a nice warm bath and collapse into that beautifully made hotel bed the better.”

Mikey bit his bottom lip slightly and looked nervously at Toni , “Erm… I kind of have something I want to show you…”

“Can it wait?” Toni asked gently.

Mikey shook his head, “Not really.” he took her hand and led her out to the waiting car, “I think you’ll enjoy it more than a hot bath.”

Toni breathed a sigh of relief every time the car sailed past a restaurant, or a bar, the last thing she was ready for right now was a room full of strangers staring at her and Mikey . The car drove further and further away from familiar streets, further and further from the centre of London, until she looked out of the window and realised that they were on a quiet residential street, lined with expensive looking, Georgian terraced houses. She wasn’t ready to relax yet, still aware that Mikey could spring a quiet, suburban restaurant on her.

But when the car pulled up onto the driveway of one of the houses, her body relaxed slightly. But only for as long as it took her to realise that she had no idea what they were doing here. She turned to look questioningly atMikey but he was already jumping out of the car to run round and open her door.

She stepped out and opened her mouth to speak but Mikey placed a finger on her lips before wrapping an arm around her waist and guiding her towards the front door.

To her surprise he pulled a key from his pocket and slipped it into the lock and pushed the door open.

He stepped into the hallway and looked back to see Toni standing on the doorstep, her face a perfect picture of bemusement.

“You enjoyed court so much you thought you’d get yourself arrested for breaking and entering?” Toni raised an eyebrow.

Mikey laughed softly as he shook his head, before holding out his hand to Toni and pulling her into the house.

“It’s yours…” he whispered into her ear.

She stepped back from him in surprise and stared at him in stunned silence, “What?”

“No more psycho flatmates…” Mikey winked.
