Adapt and Recover

"Adapt and Recover" which tells about two boys growing up in the 1970's in which was still known as the Ridges Estate. Michael and Lizzy Fox live in Oakwood Avenue they have friends who live across the road; Connie and Bob Harris. Both of their sons Roger and Ronnie play together and go to the same school. Infact they are inseparable. This story takes you through their childhood together and their desire to be Royal Marine Commandos after Lizzy, Rogers mother buys Roger an Action man toy for Christmas. As young boys they join the Army Cadets until they reach the age of eighteen where they sign up to take on the hardest training regime in the world. see the boys grow into men as they are sent to fight in the Gulf War in 1991. This is a story of friendship and comradery. one that will last a lifetime.

“Bon apatite.’

“Thank you said Ronnie as he stared at the plate piled high with food. Then out came his six slices of bread.’

Ronnie set to work on it straight away and with in ten minutes he was half way through it He made sandwiches with the gammon and sausages adding lots of tomato sauce then finished the huge portion of chips. The Chicken breasts were demolished next then he finished the eggs with the two half pound burgers then licked his lips.’

“The chef had purposely over filled the customer’s plate to try and teach him a lesson. He got the shock of his life when he came to the table to see Ronnie wiping the yolk of the eggs with the last slice of bread.

“Did you enjoy your meal sir?’

“That was absolutely delicious Chef my compliments.’

“That is the biggest meal I have seen anyone eat in my café there will be no charge to you and your guests.’ I even took a photo when I had cooked it and one of you eating it. “Can I use it as an advertisement?’

“By all means.’

“What is you r name Sir.’

“Ronnie Harris.’

“Well from now on this size portion of Mixed Grill will be known as the “Hungry Harris Mixed Grill.’

It will be added to the new menu and when ever you come to my café if you ask for a Hungry Harris it will be free of charge.’

“How about that eh’ said Ronnie. I can tell people that I have a meal named after myself.’

“This will bring in lots of customers to my café so tell all your friends about Lou’s café.’

“I will and thanks’

“No thank you my friend and I hope to see you again.’

Ronnie left the café after shaking hands with the chef and café owner. They walked back to the hairdressers and said goodbye to the girls before getting on the bus back home.

“Well that was certainly worth the trip out today wasn’t it?

“You’re telling me it was we saved at least forty pounds there you know.’

“More like eighty quid Roger.

“I had a bout two pounds of sausage, two gammon steaks, two large chicken breast fillets, six eggs, two burgers, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, and about two pounds of chips.
