Adapt and Recover

"Adapt and Recover" which tells about two boys growing up in the 1970's in which was still known as the Ridges Estate. Michael and Lizzy Fox live in Oakwood Avenue they have friends who live across the road; Connie and Bob Harris. Both of their sons Roger and Ronnie play together and go to the same school. Infact they are inseparable. This story takes you through their childhood together and their desire to be Royal Marine Commandos after Lizzy, Rogers mother buys Roger an Action man toy for Christmas. As young boys they join the Army Cadets until they reach the age of eighteen where they sign up to take on the hardest training regime in the world. see the boys grow into men as they are sent to fight in the Gulf War in 1991. This is a story of friendship and comradery. one that will last a lifetime.

Could we have some bread with that asked Ronnie?’

“Yes of course how many slices would you like?

“Well I will have six please I don’t know about these though. Could I have six fried eggs as well and can you double up on everything else?’

“The girl laughed.’

“He’s not kidding you Miss he will eat everything believe me said Ann.’

“Can we have two pots of tea as well please because those cups are very small for us?’

“Yes said the waitress as she went to the chef and gave him the order.’

The tea was brought to the table and the girl had brought two mugs for lads to drink out of.’

“Thanks a lot pet said Ronnie as he poured out the tea after giving it a quick stir He spooned in the sugar then passed one to Ann and Brenda.’ Roger did his own.’

The girl came with three of the meals that they had ordered. “Sorry sir but your meal will be with you as soon as we can.’

The others got stuck into the food and Ann offered Ronnie some chips off her plate whilst he waited.’

“Go on then he said I’m bloody starving.’

“So what is this news that you were going to tell us about?’

“Well, Roger and I got sacked from the builders this morning after Roger threatened to put the foreman in hospital after he called me a wimp because I’ve got the flu and couldn’t go into work.

“So what are you going to do now asked Ann?’

“Don’t fret said Ronnie, Roger went straight to the job centre, and we’ve got another job already.’

“Doing what?’

“We start on Monday at Formica.’

“It’s better money and everything;

“There’s just no splitting you two up is there laughed Brenda.’

“Inseparable said Ann.

“All for one.’ voiced Ronnie.’

“And one for all.’ replied Roger.’

“The chef carried out a plate the size of a dustbin lid and placed it next to Ronnie.’
