He carried on writing until the bus came to a halt in Keswick then he placed the journal into a carrier bag and waited until the others had all got off the coach.

Roger approached the driver where they could get a bus to Burns farm. The driver pointed the way to the bus stop. Roger thanked him then got off. The driver jumped down from the other side of his cabin then opened the luggage compartment and took out all of the back packs.’

They picked them up and walked down towards the bus stop the couple on the bus were going that way too and when they stopped Roger asked if they were camping at burns farm.

“Yes we are, is that where you are going?

“Yes; we are climbing Blencathra, then Helvellyn, and finally Scafell Pike.’

My wife and I have been coming here for over thirty years now. We love it and it was our love of fell walking that brought us together. I was on a hiking trip with a group of lads and met up with Shirley. I’m Ernest Kay by the way. Hi’ I’m Roger Fox, My friend is Ronnie Harris, and the two girls are Brenda McKenzie and Ann Cosh. We’ve only known each other a week or so. Shirley and I only met on a weekend and look at us now.’

“Do the buses run very often here Ernest?

“Every hour on the hour so we have about ten minutes to wait. There is a nice little pub in the village that you can go to if you would like a drink.

Thanks’ but I don’t think we will be going far tonight because by the time these lot get the tent up it will be midnight.’

Why are you climbing the three peaks asked Shirley?’

“Because it is a training exercise Shirley, yes my mate and I are in the army cadets, and we are going to join the Royal Marine Commando’s.’

I see said the woman; I’m sorry but we are members of the CND movement and are against all wars.

“Well we have to have a deterrent Shirley or anyone could invade us.

“This world was meant for everyone to share; I have no objections to migrants who want to come here.’

“Neither do I Shirley, I only oppose dictators; you know, like Adolf Hitler; who indiscriminately massacred six million Jewish people.’

“We cannot allow tyranny to rule the masses or we would have total anarchy.

“All I know is this; I do not want war as nothing is solved by it. I just want peace in the world.

“I think that is true of ninety percent of the population.’
