“We don’t want to drag this out so may I suggest that we go for a meal then drop the girls off at eleven tops.’

“Hey mate, if we are not seeing them again after tonight I want a bit time alone if you know what I mean.’ It’s going to be six months before we see them again.’

“You won’t be going to a hotel tonight will you?’

“Don’t know mate it depends on what Ann says.’

“Well I’m not going to any hotel Ron.’

“That’s entirely up to you.’

“I will ring Brenda at six o’clock and tell her the news.’

“Right, tell her to be ready for seven then; as you know how slow women are at getting themselves ready.’ Tell them to throw on a pair of jeans and a t shirt.’

“Alright I’m going to have a quick shower then I will get on the phone.’

“See you shortly then said Ronnie as he ran back over home.

After knocking up some mince and dumplings for his mother and father to eat Roger headed for the bathroom. He ran the tap in the wash basin then shook the can of shaving cream and applied it to his face after wetting it with hot water.

He used a new Gillette disposable razor blade and quickly shaved his face.

Roger undressed then stepped into the shower he had run for a few minutes to heat the water.

Washing himself with Lynx shower gel Roger hummed along to a Police tune. He rinsed off the soap suds then grabbed a bath towel and dried himself. He put on a a red crew necked jumper and a pair of jeans and then his kicker boots that were always well polished.

He looked at his watch; it was only five thirty. Brenda would not be home yet he thought.

He filled up the kettle to make a cup of tea because his mother would be home soon.

He brushed his hair then got into the car he knew that his mother would struggle to carry more fruit and vegetables home so he went down to pick her up.

“She was just about to leave as Roger pulled up.’

“Your chauffeur has arrived; get in.’

“Thanks son said his mother as he got out of the car and took all the carrier bags off her and placed them into the boot.

“I’m going out tonight mam said Roger as he pulled away. It will be the last time I see Brenda because Ronnie and I have to report to Chivenor Barracks on Friday mam.’
