35. Chapter Thirty Five

Natalia's POV

"Attention all Juniors, this year's prom theme is a night in Paris. Anyone who is on the prom comity, please come down to the gym."

"Did you choose a dress yet?" Amber asked, sitting next to me.

"Not yet, no,"

"What are you waiting for? Prom is in a week."

"I'm waiting for Jason to ask me,"

"He didn't ask you yet?"

"Nope. I didn't think he would since he doesn't dance in public."

"But still. You're his girlfriend. He shouldn't have you waiting." I shrugged and looked at the book on my desk.

"It pisses me off that he hasn't asked you to prom yet."

"It's okay. If he doesn't ask me, I'll go solo. Maybe I'll go with... I don't know... Dan."

"Dan? I won't allow you to go to your junior prom with Dan."

"Why not? He isn't that bad."

"Dan is... Like, not good." I rolled my eyes and turned to the front of the room.

"Good morning little adults." Mr. Poppet said as he put his briefcase on his desk. "Since most of you are planning on what to wear for prom, I decided to let you all have a free block today. Just no screaming, or throwing things."

"So, I'm thinking a silver dress, what do you think?"

"I think it'll look really pretty." I smiled, looking down at my phone.

"Did you hear from Jason?"

"No. He's in class and he's trying to do better this time, so I don't expect to hear from him."

"What color are you wearing?"

"Oh, I don't know. I haven't even thought of a dress yet."

"Look, if he doesn't ask you, go solo, or put yourself out there."

"I can't put myself out there. I have a boyfriend, who gets jealous easily. If I go with someone else, I'm sure Jason would break up with me."

"Is that so bad?"

"It was an honest question!"

"Yes, it would be bad. Am, I love him, and I don't want to hurt him."

"You know, love is a strong word."

"Yeah, I know,"

"You should be careful with who you say it to."

"Just saying. Maybe some people aren't all... There, when you have your whole heart into something."

"Um. Okay?"

"Anyway... Guess who asked me to prom."

"Mr. Cameron Saint. The one and only crush I have had since we were like, twelve."

"Okay, big news," Poppy announced, walking to us. I smiled at her and rested my head on my hand. "Jackson has officially asked-"

"you out?"

"No, let me finish."

"Jackson has officially asked me to prom."

"Poppy, that's great. I can't believe he worked up the balls to ask you."

"The way he did it was so nice. He took me to the lake, right by his house and we had dinner there. Then, he got down on one knee, kissed my hand, and put a slip of paper in my hand. And it said, would you be my date to the prom this year, poppy seed." I smiled widely.

"That's adorable,"

"Hey, Jason, did you know prom is coming up, and your girlfriend is without a date?" Amber asked once Jason sat next to me at the lunch table.

"Yeah, and? Talia knows I don't like to dance in public places." He replied, wrapping his arm around my waist. I nodded and swallowed my piece of sandwich.

"Don't you think you should maybe, I don't know, ask her to prom? Maybe as a gesture to, well, her being your girlfriend."

"Alright, I get it. You want me to ask her. But it's not happening. I am not going to prom. With anyone. No matter who it is. I don't do dances, and I don't do dancing." Jason said, getting up. "I'm going home,"

"See what you do," I said, hitting Amber's arm.

"What? I was only saying the truth." I rolled my eyes and looked at the garbage can in front of me.

Jason's POV

"Did it work?" I asked as I turned down the road.

"She has no idea, Jay. Amber is a pretty good actress."

"I must say, she really is. I'm surprised."

"Jack, please tell me your sister dropped the dress off at my house."

"Yeah, all done. And I already called her mom. The baby is ready to be picked up."

"Okay, good. I'm pulling into the driveway now, I'll talk to you later." I said, before hanging up the phone. I ran across the yard, to Talia's house. I have this plan, and I'm hoping it'll work, because if not, then Talia seriously won't be going to prom.

I knocked on the door and waited for an answer. "Hello?" A woman answered, opening the door.

"Hey, I'm Jason. I'm here to pick up Zackary."

"Yes, yes. Right here. All ready for you." She smiled, handing me the carriage. I looked at the baby and nodded.

"And his clothes are in here, right?"

"Everything you needed is in there."

I nodded. "Thank you," I put the baby on the kitchen table and ran around the house trying to find the surprise. Once I found the box, I put it on the living room table, and carried the baby into the kitchen. I laid a towel down on the table, took him out of his car seat, and laid him down. "Let's see how good this works little man," I put the slide-on pants over his diaper and nodded as they fit him perfectly. I slid the shirt over his head and listened as he fussed a bit from the impact of the shirt.

"Alright. You look kind of adorable." I stood the baby up. His brown eyes stared at me, as I picked him up. "Okay, maybe really adorable,"

I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to things. I don't dance or walk, but you could guide me at prom.

I took the roses from the refrigerator, and put them behind the counter, out of plain sight. My original plan was to go into the pantry and hold the flowers and the box, but because the baby is here, I can't leave him, so I have a new idea. I stuffed the piece of paper in the kid's band of his pants since Talia is going to most likely change him when she gets home. And once she does that, she'll see the note.

Natalia's POV

"Jason, I'm home!" I walked into the kitchen, seeing Jason holding Zackary. "Why is my brother here? The babysitter should be at my house."

"I don't know. But... Take him. He smells, I think he pooped." I huffed and took my little brother to the counter.

"It would be nice to, I don't know, get some help around here?"

"You're not dirty at all." I looked down to the folded piece of paper on the table. "What is this?" I opened the paper and automatically smiled. I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to things. I don't dance or walk, but you could guide me at prom.

"Jason?" I asked, turning around. Standing in the doorway, Jason stood with white roses and a box in his hand.

"Yes, oh my god, yes."

"There's one more thing. I wanted to do something special." He handed me a box. I looked at him, before opening it.

"Jason, oh my god." My eyes widened, as I stood over the rose gold dress.

"Do you like it?"

"I love it. I love it so much."

I'm going to prom. My first ever prom.
