82. Chapter Eighty Two

For this chapter, listen to the song Dirt Road Anthem by Jason Aldean... get ready for some Jason and Jackson memories, and get ready for some cliffhangers;)

Jason's POV

"Who was that on the phone?" Talia asked, sitting up in the bed.

"Jack, we're going out for a little ride." I replied, putting my socks on.

"At... twelve in the morning?"

"Late night drive." I replied, slipping my pack of cigarettes into my jean pocket.

"Have fun, be safe." She said, stuffing her face into the pillow besides her.

"I will. You go to sleep. Love you."

"Mhm." As I made my way to the front door, the light from the fridge lit up the room.

"Babe?" Little hands wrapped around the refrigerator door. "Macey, what are you doing up?"

"Natty said i could get a snack."

"No she didn't, she's asleep."

"Can I have a snack?"

"No, you can't. It's almost one in the morning, Macey. Get to sleep." She huffed before smacking her feet on the tiled floor and making her way to her room.

"Jeez, you took long enough. So much for five minutes." Jackson whined as I closed the front door.

"You try living in a house with a girlfriend, a one month old baby, and a five year old. When you say five, you mean ten, because you find the five year old raiding the fridge looking for a midnight snack when she should be sleeping, and your girlfriend who spent the whole night complaining about how she should be taken off her pills because of her baby weight.... I need to get out more."

"Well, luckily for you, I got my pack of cigarettes, and a case of beer already in your truck."

"And I have my cigarettes." I replied, walking to the drivers side of my truck.

"Does she know you're still smoking?"

"Nah, man, she made the biggest deal out of it before. She went all ape shit crazy on me. Made some stupid plan with Nick too."

"So, where we heading?" He asked.

"To the old spot."

"Ah, where all four of us used to drink."

"Yup, until Scott slept with Emily."

"Let's not talk about that time of our lives, thank you very much."

"You heard about him and Poppy, right?"

"No, what about them?"

"You didn't hear?"

"Obviously not if I just asked about it."

"Dude, they're like hooking up now. Hannah told me she's over like every day, and they aren't the quietest people."

"You're kidding right?"

"I wish I was. Everyone knows, man."

"Why does he always go after the people I love? First my sister, now my ex. I'm sure if Amber and I break up, he'll go after her too."

"Nah, I won't let that happen. Amber is like a sister to me, and I love her like one too. I wouldn't let someone like Scott hook up with her."

"Scott is like the old version of you. And you tried to go after my girlfriend a while ago, if you don't remember your pickup line for her in the freaking school cafeteria."

"I remember that, let's not go there. How about when you first tried pot and you thought you were dying."

"I was delusional! You said that wouldn't happen!" I laughed hysterically, before stopping the truck on the dirt road.

"The last time we came here was when we were fourteen."

"Before life was difficult."

"When you, Nick and I all thought about who would get the girl in bed first." He nodded.

"Remember when we put that bet on Talia?"

"Dude, don't even. It's bad enough Nick already thinks I'm still in this shit for a bet."

"Before you got whipped and had a leash around your neck?"

"Like you're one to talk!" I exclaimed, rolling my window down. I lit a cigarette with Jackson's blue and white lighter, before pushing it into my mouth.

"Remember when we were kids, and all we would do was hang out in these woods and ride our bikes?" Jackson asked.

"And pretend we were in the army."

"Back when we listened to country music." I chuckled.

"Used to? Don't think I don't see the CD's on your dash right now, man."

"Okay, yeah, big bad boy listens to country."

"Where did we get all these stupid reputations anyways?" He asked, taking a puff from his cigarette.

"I don't know. I know I had sex in like seventh grade and everyone went crazy over it. As for you and Nick, I think it was just because you were friends with me."

"Remember life before it got hard?"

I nodded, "parties, drinking, weed, drugs, girls, sex." He nodded and took a swig from his beer.

"So, what's gonna happen once you leave?"

"Um, well, my mom is probably gonna think I'm gonna die out there. Emily's gonna have a heart attack and Amber will probably break up with me."

"Amber won't break up with you." I said, taking another puff from the cigarette.

"She will if I don't come back."

"Then you know what you have to do?" He looked at me. "Come back."

Natalia's POV

Jason and I sat in the doctors office, with my sitting on the bed and Jason sitting in the chair against the window. His night last night went well, apparently. He didn't come home until about six this morning, and he's been up ever since. He claims he isn't tired, but I can see it in his eyes that he is.

"Natalia." My doctor sighed, putting my charts down.

"That's never good news." I said, playing with my fingers. Jason looked up to me, before looking back down to the checkered floor, becoming interested in the patterns.

"Tell me, have you been eating this week?"

"And what have you ate?"

"Bread, bananas, salad."

"Really?" I nodded. "I gave you a two month supply on medicine, and those two months are up. So, why didn't we get a call to refill them?"

"I still have some left."

"Do you happen to have them?" I nodded slowly. "Can I see the bottle?" I closed my eyes slightly before opening up my medicine bag, before taking out the half full pill bottle. Jason's eyes landed on mine, as the bottle came into his view.

"Two months, and do you know how much you gained?" My doctor asked. I shook my head. "Nothing. You gained. Nothing. But you lost a good fifteen pounds. In just two months."

I looked down in shame. "I don't know what I have to tell you to make you start eating, Natalia. Do you want me to stick a feeding tube down your throat? Do you need to have a bag that carries nutrients in it? Do I need to send you off to a rehab facility for this? Because no matter what I'm doing, doesn't work."

"Tell me, what do you want me to do? Give you a stronger prescription or give you a feeding tube? If I give your the meds and you don't take them, I can guarantee you won't see your child live at twelve years old. You'll be too skinny and too frail to walk, and your organs with give up. And if I give you the feeding tube, you're stuck with that tube down your throat for half your life. So, Natalia, what do you want to do? What will make you eat? Because obviously, living to see your son and living in general is obviously not working out for you."

"Meds." After getting the stronger meds and getting to the car... Jason hasn't spoken a word to me.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Why are you sorry? Is it because you didn't want me to find out, or because you're practically asking to be dead?" I looked down. "You know what, nothing I say will ever change the way you are, will it?"

"It has, Jason."

"No it hasn't, Natalia! Because every damn time we come here I'm always told the truth about everything! You tell me to be a better role model? Look at yourself. You're starving yourself, in front of your child, when you're supposed to be the role model too. And you're lying to me about this shit, and I'm tired of it."

"I'm so god damn tired of this shit. I'm tired of getting lied to. I'm tired of hearing the dumbass of a doctor repeat his words over, and over and over again. I honestly wish I never knew about this shit." He said. I wiped the tears away from my cheeks, each time he opened his mouth. They fell freely as his heavy breathing filled the car along with the screams and cries of the baby in the backseat.

"Jesus Christ, shut the kid up!" Jason yelled, slamming his hand against the wheel. I jumped back in fright as his left hand swung at my chair, just missing my shoulder. Jason kept repeating his actions, as the gas petal was pressed harder this time.

"Jason, slow down." I said holding onto the back of the seat.

"If you don't listen to me, why should I listen to you?" He asked as we passed the grocery store.

"Jason, pull over so I can feed the baby!"

"Why? You don't even feed yourself." He replied. I shut my mouth, before turning my head out the window and letting the baby scream his head off. "Look who's the hypocrite." Jason scoffed, pulling the car into his driveway.

I automatically jumped out of the car, and ran into the house, scared of what else was going to happen. Jason is in a crazy state and I don't want to be the victim in all of this, even if I technically started it. Closing the bedroom door, I ran into the walk in closet with my shoes and jacket still on. I pulled my knees to my chest and rocked back and forth as I sobbed and choked. The heavy footsteps is what made me stop sobbing. Putting my hand over my mouth, I listened as the footsteps walked around the room. "Talia." Jason said. From the slight opening in the door, i could just make out his silhouette walking towards my hiding spot.

"Talia." He sighed, opening the closet door.

"Don't come near me! Don't hurt me!"
