Maddie Parker, a 16 year old girl who was born into a family of spies. She finally goes to school, meets her best friend Alice and her crush Jason but can she tell her friends the truth?
And what would the consequences be?

20. 20.

The meeting with Mr Kwali is awkward and long and exhausting. I explain to him that I had found out some upsetting news and had lost my faith in being a spy, didn’t see the point of it, thought it did more bad than good, and then I explained how I had gotten over the shock of the news, come to my senses and arranged this meeting to see if I could get my position back.

“Does this upsetting news have anything to do with Mr Rivers?” Kwali asks when I finish. “I know it’s a personal question but I need to know whether you would be comfortable staying on the Sutton case.”

“I would be fine with that, and yes it has to do with Jason.” I say bluntly. “Personal issues shouldn’t meddle with work, right?”

“That is correct and a very mature thing for you to say Miss Parker.” He states and I just nod in response. “Unless there is anything else you would like to discuss, you are free to leave.”

“Actually there is.” I reply and he motions for me to continue. “It’s about the case, have you done anything with the information I gave you, like spoken to Jason or Mr Sutton or anything?” I ask cautiously.

“No I haven’t. In-fact the only reason I haven’t is because your dad asked me not to. He seemed to think you would come around, which he was right about. I know it’s been over 3 months since you decided that you were done with us but your dad and I always have faith that you would return here. After all, it is where you belong.”

“Okay, thank you.” He hands me the case file and opens the door for me and I smile as I leave. Feeling bitter and tired I shove the file in my bag and long for my bed. I stand at the bus stop waiting to get home and sleep. By the time it comes, I am not only tired but hungry as well so I get off a stop early and stop off at a burger cart in the park, walking the rest of the way home as I eat it. When I get home I go into the kitchen, sling my bag on a chair and dispose of the burger wrappers. I pop my head into the living room and study to let my parents know I'm home and go straight to my desk, flipping through the case file until I get to the bit on Jason and his dad. I read through it and see my name highlighted in red. Maddison ‘Maddie’ Parker: ex-girlfriend, classmate. A jolt hits my stomach and I realise that anyone wanting to get to him could go through me, or anyone that wanted to get to me could go through him. I could be putting him in just as much danger now as I did when we were together. I pick up my phone, scrolling through my contacts until I find his and pause; do I really want to do this? I still love him and I'm guessing he still loves me, if he ever did in the first place. He lied though, well he withheld the truth but that’s kind of the same thing. I lied/withheld the truth as well though so it’s not like I'm completely innocent. I hit call and raise the phone to my ear hands shaking. There’s the click of the answer and I freeze, not knowing what to say.

“Maddie, Maddie is that you?” Jason asks, his voice shaking.

“Y-yes, Jason it’s me.” I manage to stutter out.

“Are you okay?” He asks, so he thinks I'm calling for something, which I technically am but what I want is a good thing, I hope.

“Um, yeah I’m okay. I just needed to hear your voice.”

“Right okay, well I’ll see you at school then.”

“Yeah, see you.” I say before hanging up. It was only a brief conversation but its progress. I am so going to kiss that guy tomorrow. I think smiling to myself.
